Brendan Shanahan took into consideration that Duncan Keith has never been suspended in his 7 year NHL career, but for this illegal hit this rule should not apply to Keith.
Many Blackhawk fans will argue by saying that Daniel Sedin gave Duncan Keith a cheap shot right before this elbow, but nothing compares to this dangerous hit to the head.
COME THE PUCK ON PEOPLE! THAT IS A CLEAN SHOULDER CHECK!
SEDIN’S ELBOW NEVER TOUCHED ABOVE KEITH’S NECK LINE!
IT’S CALLED FINISHING YOUR CHECK!
Now check out the suspend-able hit from Duncan Keith.
The puck CLEARLY hopped over Daniel Sedin’s head and Keith still raised his elbow drilling Sedin square in the head.
WHAT THE PUCK WERE YOU THINKING KEITH!?
This hit cost Keith a 5 game suspension and in my opinion, that was NOT enough. If anything Keith should have been suspended 10 games or more. He deliberately lifted his elbow drilling Sedin in the head, while the puck was 20 or more feet away from the play. Or should I say what play?
By the way Daniel Sedin suffered a concussion and will be out of action until the 2012 NHL Playoffs. Could even be longer, you never know with these post concussion symptoms. Seems to me Keith was a bit jealous the Canucks could win the cup this year, at least I expected them to.
