NHL Starting Goalies Tonight 1/19/16
- Vancouver Canucks -> Ryan Miller
Ryan Miller made 47 saves and then three more in the shootout for the 2-1 win over the Islanders on Sunday. He even turned away all 10 shots during New York’s three power plays with four more while on the kill, and held strong as they sent 22 pucks on net in the third period alone. His record rises to 11-12-6 with a 2.68 GAA and .913 save percentage.
Miller is 6-11 with a 2.85 goals against average on the road, while vs the Rangers in his career he’s 15-13 with a 2.45 goals against average. Take that with a grain of salt though considering he played behind Buffalo for the majority of his career
- New York Rangers -> Henrik Lundqvist
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 34 of 36 shots in Saturday’s 3-2 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers. King Henrik also turned aside all three Flyers shooters in the shootout. The 33-year-old also became the first goaltender to win 20 games in each of his first 11 seasons in the NHL. Lundqvist has a 20-12-4 record with a 2.46 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage this season.
The “manager of the lumber department at the Home Depot” is 13-5 with a 2.22 goals against average at home, while vs the Canucks in his career he’s 4-4 with a 2.03 goals against average.
Vancouver Canucks Preview
The Nucks rank 26th in scoring potting 2.3 goals per game and 23rd in power play conversions at 17.8%. Their defense has been less than stellar as they are 20th in goals allowed 2.7 goals peer game and 18th in penalty kill 80.0%
Amazingly the Canucks go for their first three-game winning streak of the season tonight.
New York Rangers Preview
The Rangers are still top 10 in scoring, ranking 6th in the league potting 2.8 goals per game and 17th in power play conversions 18.0%. At the defensive end of the ice they rank in the middle of the league at 16th in goals allowed 2.6 goals per game and 23rd in penalty kill 78.8%
The Rangers won the Presidents’ Trophy last season, but their 17 points since December 1st rank only better than Montreal’s 11 points.
