Buffalo Sabres: Defenseman Andrej Sekera has an upper-body injury and will be out for weeks.
Toronto Maple Leafs: Ron Wilson hasn’t spoken with doctors regarding Matthew Lombardi, but he’s getting close.
Michael Liles is with the team on their road trip and hopes to skate with them later this week.
Anaheim Ducks: Saku Koivu has been practicing with the Ducks and when he returns to the lineup will be up to him according to coach Bruce Boudreau.
Bobby Ryan for Seguin discussion? Don’t pucking count on the Bruins letting Seguin walk…ever. You heard it here, DO NOT let this rumor get to you.
Nashville Predators: Defenseman Shea Weber didn’t skate yesterday and is doubtful for Friday.
Tampa Bay Lightning: Defenseman Victor Hedman is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Nobody is suggesting he has a concussion. Eric Brewer was able to practice.
One way for the Lightning to fix their season is to find a goalie. Big names like Roberto Luongo and Ryan Miller could be available, but Evgeni Nabokov would be a much cheaper target. I expect them to go after Evgeni Nabakov, but who knows. Mathieu Garon has been playing well, tonight will be another test for his future.
Edmonton Oilers: Defenseman Ryan Whitney didn’t skate yesterday, but did travel with the team and hopes to return to the lineup sometime during their 6-game road trip.
Oilers winger Ales Hemsky practiced with a non contact jersey, but he’ll skate today to see if he’s able to go. There are 25 games for the Oilers before the Feb. 27th trade deadline day. The Red Wings and Kings might be interested in Hemsky. It’s unlikely the Red Wings would give up their top defenseman prospect, Brendan Smith, for him. The Oilers would likely want a Dman in any Hemsky deal.
Montreal Canadiens: Andrei Markov is still not skating. Earliest return may not be until mid-to-late February.
Carolina Hurricanes: Before Christmas there were rumors that Eric Staal could be heading to Toronto. GM Jim Rutherford has said that Staal and Cam Ward won’t be going anywhere.
Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford said there is still no timeline on Jeff Skinner’s return. Joni Pitkanen has not been cleared for any physical activity.
Columbus Blue Jackets: Rick Nash likely isn’t going anywhere but what about Jeff Carter? I can see Carter being shipped out, he doesn’t seem happy in Columbus, buit who really would when you play for a team that’s in last place?
Pittsburgh Penguins: Coach Dan Bylsma said that Sidney Crosby still has symptoms. He’s doing light exercises. Defenseman Kris Letang is feeling better.
LA Kings: Have put Simon Gagne on the IR.
Washington Capitals: Semin for Iginla? Semin played great last night against the Capitals which helps his value in a trade. And the Capitals could use a real leader like Iginla rather than Ovechkin, and his commercials.
