It’s not every season you hear about a team trading away their center piece only 8 games into the young season. It’s also not everyday you read about David Booth in the October issue of USA Hockey. And how he was the center piece Florida was building around with all the new accusations from the off season.
Well either Panthers GM Dave Tallon lied, or dosen’t have a clue on how to build a winning hockey team. But I feel like he needed to let Booth go onto another city to “fix” his career. And respected him as a player by sending him to a huge hockey city. As we all know, David Booth was traded to the Vancouver Canucks. And this is probably the best move for him and his career.
Booth is now out of a NON hockey city and into a BIG hockey city. This is, as everyone including me is saying, his chance to rejuvenate his career and get back his scoring touch he once had in 2008-2009. Where Booth scored 31 goals, 29 assists for 60 points. And this was of course before Mike Richards knocked him out of the game with a severe concussion.
“I feel like I can get back there and can get even higher,” said Booth, who skated alongside Ryan Kesler and Chris Higgins in practice. “I’m playing with some good players now and that’s something that I think comes with time.
Playing along side Kesler should help him get back to his 2008-2009 form and beyond. And if all else fails, the Canucks are stacked with plenty of offensive power to help him.
Now the six-foot, 212-pound forward from Michigan has to prove he’ll be a great addition on the ice.
Booth had just one assist in six games with Florida to start the season, a far form from the six points (3-3-6) he had after six games a season ago. His lack of early production is what made him trade-able, according to reports out of Florida.
It’s no secret Booth shed some tears when he heard he was being traded. But I’m sure those tears stopped almost immediately once he realized he is now playing for the Western Conference Champs from a season ago. No player in the NHL could ask to be traded to a better team. Especially a team with such a BIG hockey culture.
I just hope the American Born player does not choke and get put into the Choking Canucks category.
