David Backes St Louis Blues 2016 Playoff Prediction
If you follow hockey news at all, you’re probably already well-aware that the hockey world is buzzing over David Backes’ current condition. Sources have said he’s out for the rest of the regular season with injuries, so the St. Louis Blues will play their last regular games without their Captain. However, the Blues know the importance of Backes, and barring some big medical issue, there’s a good chance this is a tactic to make sure he stays strong and healthy for the playoffs, since St. Louis already has a berth.
Backes has played 79 games this season for the Blues, and has scored 21 goals in that time. But Blues fans and hockey fans alike know that it’s nothing new for Backes to have those stats. He’d played in St. Louis for ten years, and has five seasons under his belt where he’s scored 20 or more goals.
Beyond scoring, Backes has made a huge name for himself in the Blues Universe. He’s a hard-knock player who handles everything with no fear on the ice, and is a true representation of a leader. It’s easy to see how the guys on his team respect him (and maybe even fear him a little – in the best possible way). He’s one of the best defensive forwards in the NHL, and not just because he’s big and isn’t afraid to hit. He can handle himself on both sides of the puck, and seems comfortable all over the ice, no matter what. He’s got an incredible power play record, and shows the value of true hard work and grit on a hockey team that’s going to the playoffs thanks in part to his skills.
Look for David Backes to be back on the ice when the playoffs roll around for the Blues; well-rested, and ready to take the team farther this year. If Backes is confident throughout the rest of the season, there’s no question that his teammates will follow that lead, and that could determine the outcome of how well the Blues play on their journey to the Stanley Cup.
