Edmonton Oilers vs Ottawa Senators Picks and Predictions 2/23/16
After the Oilers dominated Ottawa with a score of 7-2 on Feb. 4th, the Senators are looking to even the score Tuesday on the road. The loss hasn’t dampened the spirits of the Senators, who still have their eyes on being the second wild card team from the Eastern Conference to enter into the playoffs.
The Senators (28-26-6) held strong on their home series last week, winning three games and scoring their team goal of six points, moving them within six points of the second wild card position for the Eastern Conference. Now, they have to use that same focus with their next three games on the road. Ottawa does have ‘star power’ behind them, however, in the form of goalie Craig Anderson, who was named the NHL’s third star of the week, thanks to his .951 save percentage in the Senators’ last three winning games. Their recent winning streak and goal of making the playoffs will likely be a huge factor in Tuesday’s focus against Edmonton.
The Oilers (22-32-6) will come into Tuesday night’s game with a few injuries plaguing the team. Forward Hopkins, and defenseman Klefbom still haven’t been cleared to play, but it’s been injuries and confidence alike that have unfortunately been a downfall for Edmonton lately. Tuesday will finish up a six-game homestand for the Oilers, where they’ve gone 1-3-1. Their focus and strategy against the Senators will likely be the power play, where the Oilers have been struggling. Coach McLellan has been dedicating a significant amount of practice time toward the power play to create momentum where the Oilers need it most, especially against a team with the playoffs in their sights.
