Winnipeg Jets vs Carolina Hurricanes Preview 2/16/16
Many believe the Winnipeg Jets will find a way into the playoffs this season. It’s just the Winnipeg fans who think that. They have been stepping their game up lately but they will soon slow down, however they are getting hot at the right of the season.
The Jets sit dead last in the Central division with 53 points 3 behind Minnesota. The Jets have hope of passing Minnesota as they are on a major slide. Although it will be a tough road ahead if they want to get past the Predators and Avalanche who each have 62 points. That’s 9 points away.
If the Jets are going to make a run for the playoffs and they actually do make it in, they need to have a 3-1 win loss ratio from here on out. It won’t happen but let’s say it did, they will be the team to beat in the playoffs. Again, this won’t happen.
For the first time all season the Carolina Hurricanes somehow managed to score 6 goals in one game over the past weekend. I guess they were due for some offense after only averaging barely 2.4 goals per game.
Unlike the Jets the Canes sit 6th in the Metropolitan Division with 60 points being 8 points out of 3rd. Again, like the Jets they will not make the playoffs, they will be sellers come the trade deadline. They hold a -12 goal differential and that’s never good for a team.
Cam Ward left his last time out with an injury, as of now I am not sure who is going to be between the pipes. Personally, I believe Lack will get the start here. Like I said they are going to be sellers and they need to sell half of this pathetic excuse of a hockey team, including the netminder(s).
Starting Goalies Tonight 2/16/16
- Winnipeg Jets -> Ondrej Pavelec
Ondrej Pavelec kicked aside 21 shots in the Jets’ 2-1 overtime win against the Oilers on Saturday night. Pavelec was making his first start since Nov. 21 as he missed lengthy time with a knee injury. Pavelec currently golds a 2.82 goals against average and .906 SV%, we don’t have a lot of faith in him moving forward. At most, he’s worth keeping an eye on
Pavelec is 8-9 with a 3.33 GAA vs the Hurricanes in his career
- Carolina Hurricanes -> Eddie Lack
Eddie Lack made nine saves in relief in the Hurricanes’ 6-3 victory against the Islanders. Lack came on in the second period for Cam Ward, who left for an undisclosed reason after he tested his leg. He gave up two goals on 16 shots. Prior to this game, Ward had given up two goals in two games. Lack has been more cold than hot this season, now with a 2.74 goals against average and .901 SV%.
Eddie Lack vs the Jets he is 4-2 with a 2.77 GAA. Ward is 23-16 with a 2.94 GAA in his career vs the Jets.
