LA Kings vs St. Louis Blues Preview
The LA Kings are currently leading their division but San Jose are only four points behind them and Anaheim are only 3 points behind. Two legitimate teams this season in a very weak division the LA Kings should be fine if they happen to drop to the 3rd spot.
Much like the Sharks the Kings are a very good road team. I am sensing a trends here…ICE hockey in California? What a coincidence. The Kings are 18-12 on the road. Their captain Anze Kopitar is having an okay season with 17 goals so far but he’s more of a play maker in my eyes. He does the work that goes unnoticed in the neutral zone and the defensive side of his barn.
Jake Allen went down and Brian Elliott came back to life. After struggling to start the season as a back up it seems Elliott can produce when he is the starting keeper. He is no joke when he’s on his game. He holds a 15-13 record so far and I expect those winning numbers to keep climbing.
Last time out the Blues defeated the all mighty Dallas Stars simply due to Elliott, collecting his 3rd win in a row and 5th in his last seven starts. Although he did only fave 18 shots allowing 1 go into the net.
Let’s not forget about the Blues defensive style of hockey either. They will grind you down to dust and wait for you to make a mistake, and when that mistake happens the Blues come in numbers and create scoring chances. Many teams are “boring” to watch to the average fan but this Blues team is very exciting to watch if you’re into tight checking style hockey.
LA Kings Starting Goalies
- LA Kings -> Jonathan Quick
Jonathan Quick allowed two goals on 31 shots in Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to the Washington Capitals. This was Quick’s first game back between the pipes since he suffered an undisclosed injury that cost him three games. He now has a 28-15-2 record with a 2.23 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage this season.
- LA Kings -> Jhonas Enroth
Jhonas Enroth was the tough luck loser in Sunday’s 1-0 shutout to the Devils. Enroth made 17 of 18 saves, but a power play goal by David Schlemko beat the back up netminder. Though it wasn’t entirely his fault as Luke Schenn helped screen and redirect the puck in to the net. The loss brings Enroth’s record to 4-5-1 on the year with just 24 goals against
St. Louis Blues Starting Goalies
- St. Louis Blues -> Brian Elliott
Brian Elliott stopped 17 of 18 shots in Tuesday’s 2-1 OT win over the Dallas Stars. Elliott has won three games in a row, and he’s 4-0-1 in his last five contests. The 30-year-old improves his record to 15-7-6 on the season. He has a 2.03 goals-against-average and a .933 save percentage this season. He’s allowed two goals or less in nine of his last 11 contests
- St. Louis Blues -> Jake Allen
Jake Allen (knee) took part in Tuesday’s morning skate. He faced shots during the session, but it remains uncertain when he will be available to return. “I don’t know what’s going on there,” coach Ken Hitchcock said. “When he starts practicing and we’re down to two goalies, then we’ll be able to go from there. I don’t know exactly what the mindset is there. I don’t even know when he’s scheduled to participate. There’s a difference between pregame skates and practices. He hasn’t come into a practice yet. Until he does that, I don’t think we can even talk about him.”
