San Jose Sharks vs Florida Panthers Preview
There’s no argument that San Jose love playing on the road this season, I don’t blame them either. Who want’s to play ICE hockey in California? Not me. The Sharks are 19-10 on the road and with a winning percentage on the road is a very good sign of making it into the playoffs. Not many teams can brag about road wins.
Recently San Jose has gone 3-1 in their last four games on the road. Winning in St. Louis, Chicago and Tampa. Three legitimate teams who will all make the playoffs this season. Underrated Joel Ward has 16 goals on the season and when he produces the entire team around him produces. He has been one of my favorite players around the league, it’s unfortunate he is not appreciated by the fans.
The Florida Panthers have been a surprise this season although not in my eyes. I am a huge hockey fan and don’t only own Flyers hats. I also own a Panthers hat before this season started. Whenever you have the best player ever to play the game (Jagr) and best goaltender in the league (Luongo) on the same team. The young players are going to step up their games and appreciate what they have and what they can and will learn.
The offense lately has been slightly down and this time of the year is not a good time to start losing offense. Florida currently sits first in the Atlantic Division with 72 points however they have the surging Bruins and Red Wings up their ass. They also have a stellar +26 goal differential.
San Jose Sharks Starting Goalies
- San Jose Sharks -> Martin Jones
Martin Jones stopped 28 of 30 shots in Tuesday’s 4-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Jones extends his personal winning streak to three games in the process. The 26-year-old has a 27-15-3 record with a 2.34 goals-against-average and a .916 save percentage. He’s allowed two goals or less in four of his last five starts.
- San Jose Sharks -> Alex Stalock
The San Jose Sharks could be in the market for a netminder after another poor performance from Alex Stalock Thursday. Stalock is 3-5-2 this season with a 2.94 goals against average and a .884 save percentage. Many poolies thought that Stalock would win the number one job over Martin Jones but that has not been the case. Stalock is in jeopardy of losing the backup role as the Sharks could look to upgrade at the trade deadline.
Florida Panthers Starting Goalies
- Florida Panthers -> Roberto Luongo
Roberto Luongo took a hard shot off of his neck during Tuesday’s practice. He ended up going to the locker room in obvious pain, but coach Gerard Gallant and GM Dale Tallon said the Panthers netminder is fine. Luongo had a bruise where he was hit by the puck, but he should be available to play tonight against San Jose…I think?
- Florida Panthers -> Al Montoya
Al Montoya steered away 31 of the 32 shots he faced in regulation and overtime before he and the Florida Panthers downed the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in a shootout session Monday night. Montoya has been a first-rate backup for Roberto Luongo in Florida this season. He is now 9-4-1 on the season, with a good-looking 1.98 goals-against average and a .929 save percentage.
