Philadelphia Flyers vs Montreal Canadiens, February 19th 2016

With the last game between the Flyers and Canadiens (Feb. 2nd) ending with the Flyers on top (4-2), there’s a lot of hype surrounding tonight’s game. Most notably, since a somewhat controversial theme around the last game suggesting the Flyers overcame brutal reffing and unfair calls to win is still lingering in the air for some fans. It will be interesting to see if those statements stand in tonight’s game.
The Flyers come into Montreal with a 25-21-10 record, and an impressive lineup of growing statistics for a few key players. Shayne Gostisbehere will be entering the game looking to extend his point streak, already at 13 games in, and heading toward a potential record. Be sure to keep an eye out for Cousins and Schenn, as well, both looking to step up on the line, and Schenn looking to continue his own goal streak. The Flyers have beaten the Canadiens twice already this season, and are looking for that perfect trifecta.
Not to be outdone, it’s likely the Canadiens are feeling confident on their home ice. With a 27-27-4 record, the team has actually been taking some time to re-focus, heal some injuries, and come together once again.
After losing their last three games on the road, Coach Therrien is undoubtedly hoping that the home advantage will bode well for his players, who seem determined to continue working as a unit and as a stronger ‘whole,’ without making errors that could potentially cost them another game. That focus will certainly be put to the test tonight as they hit the ice against the Flyers, hoping to stop their winning streak in Montreal, and boost their confidence before going back on the road.
