San Jose Sharks Preview
The Sharks (31-21-5) are up 1-0 in their series against the Blues, last beating them on February 4th thanks to one goal each made by Donskoi and Thornton. San Jose is looking to continue their good luck on the road and advance their place in the Pacific Division, where they trail in third, behind the first place Kings.
It won’t be an easy feat, however, with a growing laundry list of their players on the injured list. While Coach DeBoer anticipates most of them (including Dillon and Wingels) will likely be able to play again before their current streak of traveling games are over.
Without a few players, the Sharks are still anticipating a win against the Blues, and hoping to rack up the five points which they will need to move up in the Pacific Division.
St. Louis Blues Preview
The Blues (35-17-9) will come into Monday night’s game on a bit of a hot streak – they’re on a five game winning streak at the moment, which is not only their highest for the season, but a great start to February, with their only loss so far against the Sharks on the 4th.
While the Blues have been struggling with injuries as well, many popular players are coming back into the game, including Jake Allen, who was activated on Sunday. However, Allen isn’t expected to start against Elliot, who has an average .943 save percentage in 17 games.
Tonight will be Elliot’s 18th straight start. He made 29 saves in the last game against the Sharks, and he’s looking for an even better performance to ensure the Shark series isn’t a shutout. With injuries coming and going on both teams, Monday’s matchup is sure to be an exciting one for the series.
Staring Goalies Tonight
- San Jose Sharks -> Martin Jones
Martin Jones streak of nine consecutive road wins against Eastern Conference opponents ended on Friday. Jones has been terrific this season but could not hold off the Carolina Hurricanes as they pumped four goals past him on 36 shots. The netminder is now 28-16-3 with a 2.34 goals against average and a .916 save percentage
- St. Louis Blues -> Brian Elliott
Brian Elliott set aside 18 shots in the Blues’ 6-4 win against the Coyotes on Saturday night. Not what you’d call his “A” game, Elliott and the Blues made things a little too interesting after going ahead 4-1 in the first period. Arizona twice came within a goal in the third period. Elliott has a 2.06 goals against average and .931 save percentage, the loss snapping a four-game winning streak
