Anaheim Ducks vs Florida Panthers Preview Pick
Anaheim Ducks vs Florida Panthers Preview Pick 11/19/15 November 19th 2015 – What happened to the Ducks high powered offense? Looks like another Bruce Boudreu team, and from what I am seeing the Ducks have already blocked him out. It happened in Washington and the trend seems to carry on now in Anaheim. However, it’s much easier to blame the coaches than the players who are locked into long term million dollar contracts. But that is what captains are for, they are supposed to be the coach as well and I am not seeing that this season from Getzlaf. However, he is coming off of an injury and I expect him to settle in soon.
The Anaheim Ducks are averaging 1.8 goals per game and are scoring on 14.3 percent of their power plays. Corey Perry leads Anaheim with five goals, Rickard Rakell has five assists and Sami Vatanen has 39 shots on goal. Top scoring prospect Nick Ritchie is expected to give the Ducks a boost on the offensive end. The power forward should fit right in to the Ducks’ physical style of play.
There is some chatter around the NHL surrounding newcomer Kevin Bieksa.
The former Canucks defenseman was slotted next to 21-year-old Hampus Lindholm for the first twelve games of the season, but was moved next to Cam Fowler after just 12 games. Shortly afterwards, the issue became apparent, Bieksa is simply not fitting in on the Ducks’ roster. The veteran defenseman has taken bad penalties and lacked chemistry with his linemates thus far, making him a candidate to be moved early on in the season.
Let’s be honest, Kevin Bieska sucks and very overrated. Always has been in my eyes, always will be. Just bench the bum and call it a day. He won’t be in the NHL next season.
Defensively, the Anaheim Ducks are allowing 2.5 goals per game and are killing 89.9 percent of their power play chances. Anton Khudobin has allowed 14 goals on 168 shots faced and Frederik Andersen has given up 33 goals on 404 shots. Andersen has given up 11 goals in his last three games.
As a Flyers fan I still cannot – well do believe – they did not resign Jagr. Jagr was one of my favorite players growing up, I ranked him higher than Gretzky and Lemieux. He does it all, he is strong with the puck, he is tall which enables him to see the ice VERY well. And do I need to mention his wicked shot?
Ageless forward Jaromir Jagr is more than likely going to set the NHL record for most goals by a player age 43 or older this season. He is already near 3rd in scoring in the history of the NHL. Jagr already has seven goals (14 points) so far this season and needs just nine more to establish the new mark, but if he accomplishes the feat at home, it is more likely to go unnoticed. The team is currently operating at just over 75% capacity on the season, after drawing a league-low 11,265 in average attendance last year.
The Florida Panthers are averaging 2.7 goals per game and are scoring on 22.2 percent of their power plays. Defensively, the Florida Panthers are allowing 2.4 goals per game and are killing 76.3 percent of their power play chances. Roberto Luongo has allowed 33 goals on 446 shots faced and Al Montoya has given up nine goals on 116 shots. Luongo has allowed seven goals in his last three games.
NHL Starting Goalies
Anaheim Ducks – Frederik Anderson
Anderson was yanked after allowing three goals on 10 shots in the Ducks loss in Nashville on Tuesday. After winning his first three starts in November, Andersen has now dropped his last three games while posting an ugly 4.44 GAA and .831 SV%. Tonight he will take on the Panthers for the second time this season—he stopped 23 of 25 in a 3-2 shootout win in their first meeting.
Florida Panthers – Roberto Luongo
Luongo stopped all 39 shots that he faced in the Panthers 1-0 shutout win over the Lightning on Monday. Luongo has won two in a row and three of his last four while posting a 2.48 GAA and .912 SV%
