A dismal 1-6-2 record and just nine goals through nine contests has Anaheim in the basement of the Western Conference and in a very tough place with head coach Bruce Boudreau.
The Ducks will certainly play their way out of this tailspin but it is something to look at as they don’t have a ton of offensive depth on their third and fourth lines and their blue line hasn’t been producing in front of Frederik Andersen who has actually put up some very impressive numbers despite the losses.
Unfortunately for the Ducks, they head into St. Louis to battle another Western power-house.
The Ducks have been shutout four times in the early going and have averaged just 1.0 gpg on the year, which is clearly dead last in the league. Anaheim’s goalie Frederik Anderson has received only five goals of support in his six starts. Anderson is 4-0 all time against St. Louis and the Ducks have won five of the last six games.
Blues surprising me in many ways
The Blues are 6-2-1 on the year and looking every bit as talented as people expected them to be and after a slow start from Jake Allen he answered the bell against a high octane Tampa Bay offense on Tuesday and recorded a shutout.
In the win over Tampa it was Scott Gomez and Troy Brouwer that scored the two goals for St Louis. Vladimir Tarasenko leads the team in scoring with five goals on the year. St Louis has been a good offensive team this year, ranking 12th in scoring (2.8 gpg), 3rd in shots taken (32.8 spg), but they have struggled on the power play, ranking 24th in that department.
On defense they have been good as well, ranking 9th in goals allowed (2.2 gpg), 2rd in shots allowed 26 (spg) and 15th in penalty kill (81.8%).
St. Louis sits in the middle of a log jammed Central division but with Kevin Shattenkirk slated to return this week the Blues look like they will only get better and could separate themselves from the rest of the pack despite playing without Paul Stastny and Jaden Schwartz for the foreseeable future.
- The Under is 6-0 their last six games playing on one days rest
- The Under is 4-1 the last five meetings
St Louis is:
- The Under is 3-0-2 their last five games at home
- The Under is 4-0-1 their last five games vs a team win a win percentage of below .400
NHL Hockey Starting Goalies
(VIA Daily Face Off)
Anaheim Ducks – Frederik Andersen
Andersen allowed four goals on 34 shots in the Ducks 4-3 loss to the Stars on Thursday. The Ducks finally scored in front of Andersen, but it still wasn’t enough to earn his first win of the season. Andersen enters play on Thursday with a 0-4-2 record, 2.05 GAA and .931 SV%
St Louis Blues – Jake Allen
Allen stopped all 26 shots that he faced in the Blues shutout win over the Lightning on Tuesday. Allen had allowed three goals in each of his first three starts, but shut the door on Tampa Bay to earn his fist shutout of the year.
