Anaheim Ducks vs Tampa Bay Lightning Prediction
First of two meetings between the Anaheim Ducks and Tampa Bay Lightning. Each team is off to an excellent start but both teams are not going to have their super stars in the lineup. Both Stamkos and Getzlaf will be out tonight.
The Ducks blew a 2-0 lead in Florida earlier in the week against the Panthers. Tim Thomas stole the show and held his team together for the 2-0 deficit rally. Then again the toughest lead to defend in hockey is a 2-0 lead.
Anaheim’s penalty kill has been considerably steady of late, going 14 for 15 in the last five games, and 4-for-4 in the loss at Florida.
As troubling as it is to not have Stamkos in the lineup the Bolts managed to fire 40+ shots on Carey Price earlier in the week. They went on to win that game 2-1 in overtime. If the Lightning can keep up that up they should be able to beat the Ducks and Jonas Hiller tonight.
The team’s goal differential is second to the Boston Bruins in the conference, and Ben Bishop has been a monster in nets with a 12-2-0 record. Not only that, the Lightning are un-beatable when the game goes into overtime or a shootout, posting a 6-0-0 record in extended time.
The Lightning have also overcome a stagnant power play – 0 for 19 this month – with a strong penalty kill. They’ve allowed only two goals the last 43 times they’ve been short-handed.
Who’s hot: Ducks forward Andrew Cogliano has a goal in each of his past four games. Perry had three goals and five assists in five games until Thomas kept him off the scoresheet Tuesday. Forward Nick Bonino has four points in his past four games.
Bishop is on his second five-game winning streak of the season; he leads the League in wins.
Injury report: Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller (flu) is questionable for Thursday. Getzlaf (upper body) remains doubtful. Saku Koivu (concussion) is on injured reserve but could be available soon.
Lightning defenseman Sami Salo sustained a lower-body injury Monday against the Bruins and is questionable for Thursday. Defenseman Keith Aulie (upper body), also injured Monday, went on IR. Stamkos has no timetable set for returning, but post-surgery estimates place it at three months.
Anaheim Ducks – Jonas Hiller (confirmed)
Tampa Bay Lightning – Ben Bishop (not confirmed yet)
This is a small NHL pick and it will be documented with our overall NHL record.
When I originally looked at this match-up I circled the Anaheim Ducks. Looking deeper into this match-up I changed my pick and ended up going with the Lightning.
The Under seems legit but I don’t trust Jonas Hiller against this Lightning team that can fire 40+ shots a game without Steven Stamkos. Back the Bolts as they should win another tight one.
Tampa Bay Lightning -110 to win $100
