Bruins vs Oilers Pick Prediction Odds 12-2-15
Bruins vs Oilers Pick Prediction Odds 12-2-15 This is my second free pick for December 2nd 2015 here at Pucking Hockey. My other is in the Lightning vs Ducks match-up.
Boston Bruins Overview
Winning their last 5 games one being against the Rangers (who are terrible in puck possession) Boston now are sitting 4th in the Atlantic division but it’s still a tight division between 4 teams for that important 2nd place spot. It’s still early in the season so no need to panic Boston fans.
Starting out bad in-goal scoring the Bruins are now ranked 3rd in the league scoring 3.3 goals per game. They also have the league’s best power play. They ran themselves up from a 25th scoring ranking, quite pucking impressive. Boston ranks 27th in defense and it’s due to been the play of Tuukka Rask and while he did get the win over the Rangers he still has a high 2.94 goals against average and a low .899 save percentage.
Which I am not surprised by, he is not that great of a goaltender. He plays out of position and allows his emotions take over when he allows a bad goal, which happens often. Luckily for him the offense is currently bailing his ass out.
Edmonton Oilers Overview
Oilers are at the bottom of the league and were blanked 3-0 against the worst team in the league. They have not looked great and you have to wonder if all those number 1 draft picks were not actually number 1 players. Then again, there goes the media hype boosting players to a vulnerable Edmonton front office.
Edmonton did go through a grueling 5 game road trip so taking that into consideration, I kind of give them a pass over their last 5 games. Even though teams should win some games on the road, at least one. Still, they play like shit at home also.
Overall the Oilers are 19th in scoring, putting up just 2.4 gpg, while also ranking 16th in power play conversions, converting on 19.5% off their chances. This was a team that was top 10 in scoring when they had Connor McDavid in the lineup, but their offense has suffered without him.
Anders Nilsson, who is now 5-8 with a 2.71 GAA on the year and has yet to make a start vs Boston, but did allow 3 goals in a game vs them in relief.
- Boston Bruins – Tuukka Rask
Rask allowed three goals on 27 shots in the Bruins win over the Rangers last Friday. With four days off in between games and Rask riding a three-game winning streak, he makes for a strong start tonight in Edmonton. Over his three-game winning streak he has posted a stellar 1.95 GAA and .934 SV%. His season numbers continue to climb closer to Tuukka Rask-type numbers
- Edmonton Oilers – Anders Nilsson
Nilsson allowed two goals on 25 shots in the Oilers loss in Toronto on Monday. Nilsson has lost three of his last four starts despite posting 1.98 GAA and .934 SV%. Tonight he will make his sixth start, at home he has gone 2-2-1 with a 3.32 GAA and .874 SV% at Rexall Place this season.

I am keeping this as a small investment because winning streaks don’t last long in the NHL and after coming off a 5 game road trip, I expect the Oilers to get it together. Still, the Bruins are the better team and only being a -135 money line favorite, it’s worth the investment risk.
Boston Bruins -135 ($100)
