Montreal Canadiens vs Philadelphia Flyers, February 2nd 2016
NHL Starting Goalies
- Montreal Canadiens -> Mike Condon
Montreal Canadiens goalie Mike Condon made 21 saves in a 5-2 loss to the Blue Jackets in Columbus last Monday night. Condon beat Columbus with 22 saves the last time he faced the Blue Jackets, but the story was quite different last Monday. The Blue Jackets got a stellar performance from their goalie, Joonas Korpisalo, who made 32 saves. Condon, playing because of the injury to superstar goalie Carey Price, now has a record of 10-7-3, with a goals-against average of 2.45 and a save percentage of .904.
- Philadelphia Flyers -> Steve Mason or Michal Neuvirth
Steve Mason has a 2.72 goals against average and .914 save percentage in 29 contests this season.
Neuvirth’s record has improved to 11-6-2. His goals-against average is 2.14 and his save percentage is an impressive .933
Canadiens vs Flyers Preview
Ranking 10th overall in the NHL in the scoring department are the Montreal Canadiens, potting 2.7 goals per game. However their power play chances have been killing them ranking just 22nd overall.
At the defensive side of the ice they come in ranked at 20th overall in goals allowed. Allowing opponents to score at least 2.8 goals per game. Most of the blame is due to Carey Price still on IR. He is their man between the pipes and when he is on the ice the entire team in front of him plays with spark. Which has been missing since he went down.
In hope of shaking up the lines the Canadiens announced that Sven Andfighetto has been brought up to the team as well as Lucas Lessio. Speedy wingers.
Claude Giroux got a hair cut, why G-money WHY!?
Still ranking at the bottom in goals scored per game (2.3 goals per game) the Flyers have been slowing improving their 27th ranking. The numbers do not shows the Flyers recent offensive surge, and their offense is finally starting to shine around new head coach Dave Hakstol.
At the defensive side of the ice, both Steve Mason and Michal Neuvirth have been stellar. Bailing out the Flyers horrific defense game after game. Ranking 15th in goals allowed, allowing opponents to score at least 2.6 goals per game I expect that number to drop steadily through February. But I am not counting on it. especially since the Flyers rank 29th in the penalty killing department….
