Washington Capitals Preview
Just last week it appeared the Montreal Canadiens were going to lead the Eastern Conference for quite some time, however the Capitals are now only 4 points behind Montreal for first. Ironically beating Montreal in their last game, here at Pucking Hockey I backed the Capitals as they won 3-2. But something did not sit right with me while watching the game.
If it were not for Braden Holtby who knows where the Capitals would be in the standings. They do have great puck control and throw up a lot of quality chances throughout every game. There is just something that does not sit right in my gut today against the Jets.
Washington continues their Canadian road trip in Winnipeg today, a building that’s not easy to play in. The smallest arena in the NHL causes a lot of confusion for opposing teams when the fans are yelling their lungs out. Makes you wonder if it also affects the Jets?
However the numbers don’t lie, Washington has been a very strong team at both ends of the ice this year as they come in ranked 4th in scoring 3.2 goals per game and 3rd in power play conversions 25.7%, while on defense they come in at 5th in goals allowed 2.2 goals and 6th in penalty kill 84.1%.
Winnipeg Jets Preview
As for Winnipeg they have been slumping and they need a much-needed win today at home, in front of their home crowd, on a Saturday night. That’s the bottom line for Winnipeg, they have the advantage to snap the Capitals winning streak. Remember, all streaks do get broken.
Winnipeg has been a solid offensive team that ranks 8th in the league in scoring 2.8 goals per game, but they are just 26th in power play conversions 15.9%. The backend is where they have been struggling, ranking 29th in goals allowed 3.1 goals per game and 21st in penalty kill 79.0%
Washington Capitals – TBD
Winnipeg Jets – TBD

Washington Capitals vs Winnipeg Jets 12/5/15 Expert Hockey Pick
The Caps are a -140 money line favorite on the road tonight and for my money, that’s a high price. They are coming off of an emotional win and the Jets REALLY need to win at home today. However no matter who starts in net for Winnipeg they don’t stand a chance.
Winnipeg plays Washington today at home then go to Chicago on Sunday. If they want to rebound, it starts today.
Winnipeg Jets +115 (no rating this pick is for entertaining purposes only)
Capitals should be good for 3 goals, Byfuglein and company will pot a couple of goals considering they are 8th in scoring. Expect a back and forth type game.
OVER 5.5 (no rating this pick is for entertaining purposes only)
