With about 3 weeks to go in this shortened, miserable, NHL season the Carolina Hurricanes have to resort to AHL’er Justin Peters.
According to the Raleigh News & Observer, back up Dan Ellis is expected to be sidelined for about a week after suffering a cut near his knee in Thursday’s 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils. The team is already without Cam Ward, who is expected to miss the rest of the regular season with an MCL sprain.
Currently sitting 8th in the Eastern Conference Carolina’s hurricane may have turned against them. The loss of Ward is big enough, now the loss of Ellis you mine as well just stick a dagger through the Hurricanes at this point.
What makes this Ellis injury very strange, is the fact that no player even touches him right before he was cut. I believe though the shot of Patrick Elias may have trickled through Ellis’ leg pad and clipped his knee.
Ellis is 4-5-1 on the season with a .918 save percentage and a 2.65 goals against average.
