Columbus Blue Jackets vs Washington Capitals Prediction
This is the second meeting between these two clubs as the Capitals won 4-1 back on October 19th. This is the second game in Washington, the teams will meet two more times after this match-up in Columbus.
Washington has won 4 consecutive games at the Verizon Center and they will have a good test against a streaking Columbus squad tonight. The Jackets on the other hand have not won a road game since October 10th.
The line of Brandon Dubinsky, Cam Atkinson and Ryan Johansen combined for 7 points with a 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday. There were five different goal scorers for Columbus in that game, a breakout they have been waiting for all season. But don’t expect it to stay like that, they did play the sluggish Islanders after-all.
The Capitals had a real test over this past weekend where they lost 4-1 to the red hot Colorado Avalance. It wasn’t a lack of effort that caused them to lose, they had 34 shots, including 14 shots in the third period but only managed to score one goal. And no, it was not an Ovechkin tally. Joel Ward scored the only goal.
Washinton’s power play was red hot eventering the match-up clicking at 25% but they went 0 for 4 in the game. The Capitals are a decent team but nobody is beating the Avs, including the Caps.
Who’s hot: Ovechkin has three goals in his past four games, and Ward has a goal in two straight games for the Capitals.
Dubinsky carries a three-game scoring streak (one goal, four assists) for the Blue Jackets. RJ Umberger has three goals this season, with two having come in the past three games.
Injury report: Forward Nick Foligno is questionable (personal) for the Blue Jackets. Forward Boone Jenner (leg) will not play. Forwards Nathan Horton (shoulder), Cody Bass (thumb) and Matt Calvert (abdomen) are on injured reserve.
Capitals defensemen Jack Hillen (tibia) and John Erskine (upper body) are on injured reserve.
Columbus Blue Jackets – Sergei Bobrovsky (confirmed)
Washington Capitals – Braden Holtby (confirmed)
Here at Pucking Hockey we have a small pick for this match-up and it will not be documented in our overall NHL record this season. There’s better betting options over this game.
I expect a low scoring game staying under the game total of 5.5
