Detroit Red Wings (3) vs. San Jose Sharks (2)
Going to be honest with you, this is the hardest series to predict thus far. I predicted 7 out of 8 series in the Quarter Finals, and this series is going to either make me have a perfect 4 for 4 or give me my only lost in the Semi Finals.
The main thing that concerns me with both teams is the goaltending. Antti Niemi has the experience and the Stanley Cup, but in the quarter finals, he was shaky. He had a .867 save percentage against the Kings. But Todd McLellan stuck with him showing a lot of confidence in the young goaltender, knowing they have a solid back up Antero Nittymaki just in case
As for Jimmy Howard of the Red Wings, it is hard to predict how he is going to play against the Sharks. He faced a Coyotes team in the quarter finals, played ok, but never really saw any true scoring threats as he will against the Sharks.
If Joe Thornton, Logan Couture, Joe Pavelski, and Devin Setoguchi can carry their solid play into this series, Howard may not have a chance. But the same could be said about the many scoring threats the Red Wings have.
I expect a lot of high scoring games in each game of the series. It’s going to be a matter of who ever runs out of gas first in terms of scoring goals. The only advantage I see in this series is the fact that the Sharks knocked out the Red Wings last year in the 2010 NHL Playoffs.
Prediction: San Jose Sharks to win the series in 6 games.
