NHL Starting Goalies
- Philadelphia Flyers -> Steve Mason
Steve Mason turned aside 30 of 32 shots in a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens. Mason brings his record to 11-12-6 to go along with a 2.70 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage. The 27-year-old is 4-2-1 over his last seven starts, posting a save percentage of .910 or better over that same span.
Steve Mason is 5-9 with a 3.02 goals against average on the road this year, while vs the Predators in his career he has gone 6-12 with a 2.39 goals against average.
- Nashville Predators -> Pekka Rinne
Pekka Rinne allowed one goal on 23 shots in Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues. It’s an unfortunate result for Rinne, as he was pretty good in this one. The 33-year-old has had a rough season, but this was one of his better performances in a losing effort. Rinne has a 19-16-7 record with a 2.43 goals-against-average and a .907 save percentage this season
Rinne is 19-23 with a 2.43 goals against average on the year, including 12-10 with a 2.09 goals against average at home, while vs the Flyers he’s 3-3 with a 2.41 goals against average.
Flyers vs Predators Preview
These stats do not reflect the recent surge of the Flyers but as of now they rank 27th overall in scoring netting just 2.3 goals per game. In the power play department they have always been one of the best teams, this season they rank 14th while converting on 18% of their chances.
Surprisingly the Flyers defense has been pretty stellar this season ranking 15th overall. However their penalty killing “skills” are pathetic as they rank 26th overall allowing teams to convert on 22% of their chances. That’s when the defense look like 4 orange pylons on the ice.
Not surprisingly the Predators only have 6 players with at least 6 goals on the year. Their offense has been a joke but is, I guess, balanced evenly? They do rank 19th overall in scoring, not too bad but they could be better, netting just 2.5 goals per game. On the power play the Shea Weber bomb along with the rest of the defense allow Smashville to rank 9th overall in the NHL, converting on 20% of their chances.
The Preds 13th in goals allowed, allowing 2.6 goals per game thanks to Pekka Rinne’s not like goaltending skills, while allowing teams to convert on 20.5% of their power play chances, which is 23rd in the league.
