Free Hockey Picks Predators vs Rangers
Free Hockey Picks Predators vs Rangers for November 23rd 2015 11/23/15 – Things may not get easier for a Nashville team coached by Peter Laviolette. The Preds will look to shake off the rust after a road loss in Minnesota however as mentioned, now Nashville has another hard task tonight in New York obviously on the road, in the Eastern Conference. I have a lot of faith in Laviolette but he is one of the coaches who does not adjust during games. He sticks to his pre game plans and I personally know this due to his time in Philly.
Much like Laviolette’s time in Philly his team was a top the scoring sheet in the league. This season Nashville ranked 10th in scoring then suddenly dropped off. They have been shutout in back to back losses to Columbus and Minnesota. However, I can’t fault them too much. Columbus is finally coming back to life and with their new head coach Tortorella – who is one of my favorite coaches in the league and Minnesota, well is a very balanced team coached by another favorite of mine, Mike Yeo.
Due to their outburst starting the season the Preds rank 5th in shots per game and 17th in power play conversions. These numbers are stellar and they should still remain the same. They just can’t find the back of the net at the moment.
Goaltender Pekka Rinne has struggled on this trip as well as he has taken the loss in both games and has allowed a combined seven goals in the process. Rinne is now 10-7 on the year with a 2.21 GAA and vs the Rangers in his career he has gone 1-2 with a solid 1.98 GAA. He is an outstanding netminder but when he has bad games, he has terrible games which makes the Predators offense having to push the envelope harder.\
I backed the Rangers as my top pick of the month over the weekend and that game was a wild one. They were leading 4-2, stopped skating and the Panthers potted 2 goals within 30 seconds in the final minute of the game. Of course Jagr was one of those goal scorers, one of my all time favorite players to ever play this great game. The Rags eventually won as Rick Nash scored in OT. He scored 3 goals in the game and finally carried New York on his shoulders which is his job. Zuccarello also played a major role in the game. Young hockey fans, keep this in mind, if you’re a shorter hockey player make sure you have a long stick. That is the sole reason why Zuccarello shines on the ice and is very effective.
Nash, who now has five goals on the year. His third goal was a biggie as it came in OT after the Rangers had squandered a two goal lead late in the game. Mats Zuccarello (10th) ad Viktor Stalberg also scored in the game for the Rangers, who are now 5th in the league in scoring at 3.1 gpg.
Henrik Lundqvist got the win in the game, but he is not happy at all right now as the defense is forcing him to make a ton of saves each and every night. In the win over Florida he had to make 39 saves and for the year the Rangers are 27th in the league in shots allowed per game, giving up 31.8 spg. Although Lundqvist is the most consistent goaltender in the league, no human can continue handling all of these shots he faces game in and game out. In my opinion Dan Boyle needs to go. He was great in his prime and I looked up to his game, but his time has expired. The Rangers need to utilize him cautiously this season, let him get as much rest as possible then use him down in the season and into the playoffs where he historically shines.
The Rags have stormed out of the gates with a 15-3-2 mark which has them sitting in third place in the overall standings and second in the East behind the Montreal Canadiens. Put they are due for a loss at home unless they tighten up on defense. Will they tonight, only time will tell.
NHL Starting Goalies
Nashville Predators – Pekka Rinne
Rinne gave up four goals on 27 shots in the Predators loss in Minnesota on Saturday. Rinne has lost his last two games while allowing a combined seven goals on 44 shots (.841 SV%)
New York Rangers – Henrik Lundqvist
Lundqvist allowed four goals on 43 shots in the Rangers OT win in Florida on Saturday. Giving up four goals in a game is never ideal, but King Henrik was peppered by the Panthers and he stood tall. Lundqvist has gone 6-1-0 with a 1.83 GAA and .942 SV% in seven starts in November and has been particularly good at home this season (6-1-1).
