It’s game one in the best of seven for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals in your free hockey picks and predictions tonight. This Eastern Conference semifinal game will take place at the Verizon Center, where the Penguins have won six of the last eight games. These are two teams with incredible records – one with more consistency all year, and one that was on fire toward the end of the season, so it should be an exciting series to watch unfold.
Pittsburgh Penguins Still Winning Lord Stanley
The Penguins (0-0) turned into a completely different team this season when Mike Sullivan took over as coach, and they’ve gone 18-3 in their last 21 games overall under his watch. Matthew Murray will be in the crease tonight while Marc-Andre Fleury is still not 100%. During the regular season, Murray went 9-3 with a 2.00 GAA. The Penguins come into this game at 3rd in scoring, and 6th in the league in goals allowed. They’ve also been decent on the power play, coming in 5th by converting 15.6% of their chances.
Washington Capitals Showing Signs of Fatigue
The Capitals (0-0) has been an incredibly solid team all season long, and ended up with the most points of any team by the time the season was over. But, they had to play a few more games against Philly than they probably would have wanted to in their position. They’ve been a great home team, going 31-13 on the season. Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson helped to put away the Flyers, and continue to be key playmakers for the Caps. In the goal tonight will be Braden Holtby, who played all six games in the first round for a 0.84 GAA. He was 25-6 at home this year during the regular season, and the team comes in at 2nd in the league for goals allowed.
