NHL Starting Goalies Tonight
- Chicago Blackhawks -> Corey Crawford
Corey Crawford turned aside all 26 shots he faced in Sunday’s 3-0 win over the Ottawa Senators. Crawford got his new year started on the right foot after giving up five goals in a win over Arizona in his last start. The 31-year-old has a 20-10-2 record with a 2.24 goals-against-average and a .925 save percentage in ’15-16
Crawford is 4-1 with a solid 1.72 GAA vs the Penguins in his career.
- Pittsburgh Penguins -> Marc-Andre Fleury
Marc-Andre Fleury made 38 saves in the Penguins’ 5-2 win against the Islanders on Saturday night. Fleury was making his first start since Dec. 14 as he was dealing with a concussion. Chicago Blackhawks Preview
The Blackhawks are a solid defensive team, they rank 10th in goals allowed, giving up just 2.4 goals per game, while ranking 11th on the penalty kill at 81.4%. Chicago comes into this match-up 9th overall in scoring, netting 2.8 goals per game, while converting on 23.6% of their power play chances, 3rd in the league. The Blackhawks have now won 10 of their last 14 games and are starting to look like the team that won it all last year.
Pittsburgh Penguins Preview
It may be evident Sidney Crosby has turned his game back on. Crosby now has 11 goals, after scoring just six goals through his first 32 games of the year. It’s such a long season, these All-Star players know when it’s time to kick it into gear. Calm down Pittsburgh.
Mike Sullivan clearly turned this team around at the perfect time. His breakouts are quite unique and with the players he has on his bench, the breakouts seem almost too easy.
Pittsburgh has been a solid defensive team this year, ranking 8th in goals allowed 2.4 goals per game and 6th on the penalty kill (84.1%). Still sitting 24th in scoring 2.4 goals per game and 19th in power play conversions (18.6) – this Pitt team will be a very dangerous team from here on out.
