WINNIPEG JETS @ PHILADELPHIA FLYERS – GAME TIME @ 1:00 PM EST
The Philadelphia Flyers are coming off a disappointing loss to the Florida Panthers Thursday night, but in their defense the Flyers played a very emotional game the night before in Pittsburgh. Where they concluded a 6 game road trip.
Goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov gave up 3 weak goals before he was finally yanked for the 2nd time this season. In 17 games played this season, the highest among all active NHL goalies, Bryzgalov has a .900 SV% while allowing just 2.76 goals per game.
He’s played much better than last season but still not playing as the goalie everybody expected in Philly. The Flyers defense is a mess and until they get that straigntened out, I don’t see Bryzgalov’s numbers getting any better. He’s not that – Quick, Fleury or Thomas – type goalie. He’s your more traditional butterfly style goaltender and shines when the defense in front of him is decent. Which is why he shined in Phoenix all them years.
With that being said, I expect Bryzgalov to allow at least 2-3 goals this game. The good news though for Bryz is that the Flyers offense is finally heating up, but they will be without top winger Matt Read. This is a big blow to the Flyers offense but they still have plenty of fire power.
As for the Winnipeg Jets, they have their fair share of problems as well. Goaltending number one is a mess. Ondrej Pavelec in 14 games played this season holds a .896 SV% while allowing 2.97 goals per game. Second, the Jets are ranked 24th in goals against.
The Flyers are ranked 22nd in goals against, not too far from the Jets.
The last match-up between these two clubs the Flyers won 3-2 in Winnipeg, expect the Jets to try and get revenge in Philly.
Winnipeg Jets – Ondrej Pavelec
Philadelphia Flyers – Ilya Bryzgalov
The Flyers have are ranked 5th for the most goals in the first periods and 4th for the most goals scored in second periods. While the Jets are ranked 26th the first period and 14th the second period.
I expect the Flyers to come into this game and get back what they lost on Thursday night against Florida. And that is goal after goal after goal. They always seem to score a lot of goals in Saturday games.
Expect the Flyers to do most of the scoring in the first and second periods, while the Jets do their scoring towards the end of the second period. While probably being the only ones to score in the 3rd period as well.
This one is going to be a high scoring affair, with the Flyers on top 4-3. The Flyers are -140 favorites in this match-up but that’s too much juice for me to risk on a team that’s ranked 22nd in goals against. The Flyers were also -140 favorites last game where they lost 5-2….the over is your best bet.
