I even had to make a change on my fantasy hockey team by trading Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak simply because they have been taking Craig Anderson’s amazing numbers down the drain with them.
It may be time the St Louis Blues also look into replacing Elliott. They have already replaced him with AHL goalie Jake Allen, who will be starting in net tonight due to the fact that Halak is still on the sidelines.
As for their defense it’s not as bad as everyone thinks. The Blues have the best shots against in the league allowing just 22.3 per game.
The Detroit Red Wings on the other hand come into this game playing at home, where they dominated last season and are currently 5-2 this season.
Goaltender Jimmy Howard comes into this game with just a .906 SV% – a bit shaky this season – but last game against the Kings he turned away 45 of 47 shots. Posting a .957 SV%
The numbers from Sunday look good but if you watched the game, you would have seen that the Kings – although had 47 shots on net – were just firing the puck right into Howard. They refused to get him moving side to side.
I expect a tight defensive game from both ends of the ice in this match-up. The Blues come into this game leading the league in power play goals, and the Wings lead the league in power play chances. The message in the locker room for the Red Wings will be to stay out of the penalty box.
The Blues are on a 5 game losing skid where as the Wings are on a 3 game winning streak. This is hockey, streaks are meant to be broken but for the Red Wings, not today. Don’t expect an easy Wings victory though, the Blues will fight and make the Wings earn those two points tonight.
St. Louis Blues – Jake Allen
Detroit Red Wings – Jimmy Howard
Detroit Red Wings 3-2
