Did you see that Gustav Nyquist goal the other night against Ottawa? In overtime Nyquist controlled the puck for over 20 seconds in Ottawa’s zone making them chase him in circles. Now the line that was out for the Senators was gasped, and it showed. But for Nyquist to control the puck like he did THEN score from above the circle was just simply amazing.
In case you missed it….
Gustav Nyquist leads the Detroit Red Wings in goals, and his latest was perhaps the most memorable this season by anyone. Is there a new number 14 in town? 😉 Nyquist led Detroit with a career-high 28 goals in only 57 games in 2013-14, and he’s on pace to surpass that total with 15 in 36 contests this season.
I am not one to show-off but I am a proud fantasy hockey owner of Nyquist (drafted).
Nyquist is also scoring a team-high eight goals and tallying five of his eight assists on the power play. The Red Wings’ 33 power-play goals lead the league, and they’ve gone 6 for 13 over the past three games.
Outside of SNIPE-quist captain Henrik Zetterberg has also been red-hot lately. The captain has four goals and five assists in his last five visits to Boston. Henrik Zetterberg has six points in four games with half coming on the man advantage – including a goal at Ottawa.
Detroit has owned Boston as of late going 8-1-1 in the last 10 match-ups and winning three of four at TD Garden.
As for this Boston team, I guess all good teams eventually have set backs but this season has been a terrible disappointment for not only Boston fans but for hockey fans who enjoy watching them play (me). The most recent embarrassment was on Saturday when the Columbus Blue Jackets scored 6 goals on Boston. Yes, six goals, that’s the number 6.
Boston only managed to score 2 miserable goals.
Tuukka Rask, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, has a 3.10 goals-against average with a 3-4-2 record in his last 10 games. He allowed three goals on 15 shots Saturday after replacing Niklas Svedberg, who did the same and was pulled early in the second period. Rask is 2-5-1 with a 3.10 GAA against Detroit.
Did I mention that Gustav Nyquist has scored at least one goal in 4 career meetings against Boston? Have you figured out the love I have for this young super star?
And I almost forgot! The Bruins will NOT have Lucic and Bergeron tonight. That is huge…
Detroit Red Wings vs Boston Bruins Prediction (12/29/14)
As of this moment (12/28/14) when I wrote this free NHL prediction today neither team have confirmed goaltenders. But I can almost guarantee Jimmy Howard will be starting for Detroit. And with any luck for Boston fans, they will have 2 kegs of beer in net tonight.
I can’t figure out why the Red Wings are a +115 road underdog but I bet it has something to do with Vegas making the Bruins the favorites – well – because it’s the “Big Bad Bruins”. I do believe however that the Bruins will break out of their funk sooner or later but it just seems like it’s getting later and later with this team. I have no choice but to choose the hotter team at the moment and back the Detroit Red Wings.
Detroit Red Wings +123 (risking $100 to win $123)
