Pittsburgh Penguins vs Carolina Hurricanes Prediction (12/27/13) TOP NHL PICK OF THE DAY
Being atop of the Eastern Conference is no fluke. And what’s most impressive is that the Penguins have done this being short-handed for most of the season.
Defensemen Rob Scuderi (ankle) and is practicing and appears close to returning. Center Evgeni Malkin (leg) is skating but will not play tonight. Forwards Jayson Megna (lower body), Andrew Ebbett (broken ankle) and Beau Bennett (wrist surgery), defensemen Kris Letang (upper body) and Paul Martin (fractured tibia), and goalie Tomas Vokoun (blood clot) are on injured reserve.
Most recent Pascal Dupuis will have ACL knee surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.
Most fans will tip their hats to Sidney Crosby but in reality they should be tipping their hats to the head coach Dan Blysma. He is by far the best coach in the NHL and there’s a reason why he’s coaching Team USA in the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics. Bylsma has turned his team inside and out with every injury that he has faced and to this day still manages to make the Penguins look very elite. But the most recent injury will be hard to overcome and replace.
Pittsburgh has won each of the past four match-ups by multiple goals, outscoring the Hurricanes 21-9. But don’t expect the same results tonight. There’s way too many weapons for Carolina tonight against a very depleted Penguins squad. The Penguins were considered a solid bet tonight until the recent news of Pascal Dupuis.
This is the first time in a long time we have been able to get reasonable odds on this Penguins squad and there’s a reason for that. Besides the top line of Crosby and Kunitz the Penguins won’t have much chemistry elsewhere. We may see Blysma load up Crosby, Kunitz and Neal on the first line but he won’t be able to keep them together all game.
Carolina on the other hand has balance among their top 6 forwards. First line consists of Jeff Skinner and Eric Staal. Second line consists of Jordan Staal and Alexander Semin. The only thing that does worry me however is Justin Peters. I am quite shocked they aren’t starting Cam Ward.
This was a difficult game to handicap but of the other games this was the only game with the most edge. Back Carolina and don’t expect an easy victory for them. This one could take all 3 periods, maybe even overtime.
Carolina Hurricanes +105 to win $500
Edmonton Oilers vs Calgary Flames Prediction (12/27/13)
It’s the battle of Alberta tonight between Edmonton and Calgary and guess what!? Both are coming off of victories, which is a rarity for both teams in case you didn’t know.
It’s been a few days since each team has been on the ice and I expect players to be a bit rusty. Don’t expect the same fast skating pace as we normally would. And with that being said don’t expect many goals to be scored.
Devan Dubnyk will be in between the pipes for Edmonton. He is 5-1-1 with a 1.86 goals-against average in his last seven starts against Calgary.
Reto Berra will be in between the pipes for Calgary. He posted a 1.97 GAA while starting both meetings against Edmonton.
I expect both goaltenders to be on their game tonight helping us cash the under 5.5
UNDER 5.5 to win $100
