Tampa Bay Lightning vs Calgary Flames Prediction (1/3/14)
It’s been six years but the Tampa Bay Lightning are in the midst of their most successful road trip. The Bolts will seek their 5th consecutive road victory while they try to hand the Flames their 4th consecutive defeat.
The Lightning own a 16-5 goal advantage during a four-game road winning streak that is the team’s longest since it won six in a row Jan. 8-Feb. 7, 2008. Tampa Bay scored 11 goals and was shut out three times during an 0-5-2 road slide that preceded this current winning stretch away from home.
Tampa Bay has won four of six against the Flames since beating them in seven games to win the 2004 Stanley Cup. The Lightning won 5-4 in overtime at home in the most recent meeting Dec. 15, 2011. Honestly though, I don’t know why I just wasted your time by writing that. The team is completely different since then.
This free NHL pick basically just comes down to which team is hotter and what team will want this win more. The Bolts are on fire and the Flames have been in a hole all season. I don’t believe in lengthy losing streaks in hockey but the Flames are one of those teams that can carry on those lengthy losing streaks.
The Flames have been shutout two games straight and only managed to score one goal in their last game. That’s 1 goal in 3 games for Calgary and I don’t expect them to find the back of the net tonight against Ben Bishop. I also don’t expect the Lightning to find the back of the bet against Karri Ramo.
Ramo will face his former team tonight and will most likely seek to prove them wrong.
Calgary has the third worst shots on goal in the league at 26.7 per game. Not nearly enough to score more than 2 against Bishop. And Ramo carries a 3-2-0, 2.34 GAA and .913 SV% at home into tonight’s contest.
The over/under is set at 5.5 with odds north of -120 for the under. Take the under and don’t look back.
UNDER 5.5 to win $100
