Even though Dallas has won the first two of their games against Nashville, the Predators are on a bit of a hot streak at the moment, and they’ll be going for their fifth straight win tonight. The Stars will be coming into Nashville after losing against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday, though it was a very close game.
The Stars (38-19-7) have not only lost three in a row, but they also didn’t so much as have a goal in those three games until Vernon Fiddler scored on Monday and helped the team tie up 2-2 against Detroit. Still, it would be the Red Wings that came out on top, and their loss streak continues. Goaltender Antti Niemi made 30 saves against Detroit, but it will likely be Kari Lehtonen that starts tonight against a strong Predators’ offense. Stopping that offense at the net will be the key tonight for the Stars, when hat tricks have been prominent for the opposition lately.
The Predators (31-21-11) may increase their odds of winning tonight with the return of Shea Weber (lower body injury) on defense, who practiced Monday and said he “feels good.” Nashville will also be looking to forward Filip Forsberg, who had a hat trick last week against the Maple Leafs, and another on Saturday against the Blues. Both of those feats helped bring the Predators to victory against both teams, as Nashville hopes to add to their four-game winning streak tonight against the Stars.
Without injuries plaguing them, and being able to play at home against a team that has been struggling lately, the Predators have to be feeling good about their chances against the Stars.
- Dallas Stars -> Kari Lehtonen
Kari Lehtonen allowed three goals on 29 shots in Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers. It’s a heartbreaking loss for the Stars. They fought back to tie the game at two late in the third before Kevin Klein gave the Rangers the win with under three minutes left. Lehtonen’s record falls to 16-8-1 in 2015-16
- Nashville Predators -> Pekka Rinne
Pekka Rinne stopped 28 shots in Saturday’s 5-0 win over the St. Louis Blues. Rinne has won three straight starts and he’s 4-0-1 in his last five contests. The 33-year-old has a 23-18-9 record with a 2.44 goals-against-average and a .908 save percentage this season.
