The Red Wings seem to be making a bit of a comeback, after losing four in a row (0-2-2), they’ve now won their last two games, back to back. Their win against the Avalanche over the weekend will hopefully provide enough moment for Detroit to take on a Dallas team who already beat them once in November, but has been struggling to get wins lately.
The Red Wings (31-20-11) took Sunday off after defeating Colorado on Saturday, and they’re looking to get their third straight win in a row in Dallas. Part of the Red Wings’ good luck lately comes from goaltender Petr Mrazek, who made 24 saves on Saturday, and is expected to make his third start tonight.
Coach Blashill is remaining fairly neutral on the team’s performance as of late, simply stating the fact that “We have to compete and find ways to get points.” That may be the simplest, yet most effective mentality for Detroit as they head into Dallas, and try to outshine the Stars.
The Stars (38-19-6) are still just one point behind the Chicago Blackhawks for first place in the Central Division, despite having lost their last five out of six games. Those losses were apparently enough to make forward Ales Hemsky sick on Saturday against the Rangers, as he left the game during the first period due to illness. It’s unknown whether Hemsky will play tonight, but forward Travis Moen could return from his lower body injury. In order to keep their ranking within the League, the Stars’ best bet is to protect the net, after having allowed 25 goals in their past five games. Or find a legitimate goaltender, for once.
- Detroit Red Wings -> Petr Mrazek
Petr Mrazek made 24 saves in the Red Wings’ 5-3 win against the Avalanche on Saturday night. Not his finest effort, but he ended up with the win anyway. Mrazek was pretty good after allowing two first-period goals. He has helped the Red Wings earn at least a point in three games in a row, allowing six combined goals. Mrazek has a 2.10 goals against average and .927 save percentage
- Dallas Stars -> Antti Niemi
Niemi was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, so he’s expected to get the nod against Detroit. Niemi has 22 wins along with a 2.64 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage this year
