Washington Capitals vs Chicago Blackhawks, February 28th 2016

The Capitals will come into The United Center on Sunday riding high after a 3-2 home win over the Minnesota Wild. With that win, Washington has won five of their last six games, improving their already impressive record. The Blackhawks, unfortunately, haven’t had that kind of luck, losing at home to the Nashville Predators, which makes back to back losses for them this week. With Washington besting the Blackhawks in the last four games, Chicago needs to make some magic happen, and really ‘Unite’ in a way they’ve struggled with all season.
The Capitals (45-11-4) have the best record in the League at the moment, but they haven’t done the best job in reassuring their fans completely. Unless they’re aiming for nail-biters night after night, Washington has struggled with really shutting teams out the way they should. They’ve won eight of their last ten games by just one goal. Still, scores are scores, and the record stands. Washington will come into Sunday’s game as the top scoring team in the League, and third in goals allowed, which are pretty great odds against a struggling Chicago team who hasn’t performed well at home lately.
The Blackhawks (38-20-5) are looking to turn things around from their bad luck at home and on the road, utilizing every moment until the trade deadline. They just gained Andrew Ladd from Winnipeg, who is hoped to boost the confidence and play of the offense. Corey Crawford needs to step up in the net on Sunday, too, after going just 1-5 in his last six starts. Against the best offense in the League, though, Crawford will need to play a solid game and catch every puck.
Starting Goalies Today
- Washington Capitals -> Braden Holtby
Three games, three goals against, three wins for Jonathan Quick. The latest victim is Edmonton during Thursday’s 2-1 win after turning away 26 shots. He’s turned away 81 of 84 shots during the winning streak, a rate no one is surprised Quick can pull off. Even if it is only three games. The win raises his record to 31-15-3 with a 2.15 goals against average and .922 save percentage on the season.
- Chicago Blackhawks -> Corey Crawford
Corey Crawford allowed two goals on 31 shots on Thursday night in a 3-1 loss to the Predators. Crawford played well, but was out-duelled by Pekka Rinne who made 38 saves. Crawford has now lost two straight and is 32-16-3 with a 2.26 goals against average and .928 save percentage
