New York Islanders Preview
Are the Islanders back on track? New York’s last two games were against the Rangers and the Blues. They won both and both wins were based around great defense along with Jaroslav Halak playing out of his mind against New York. He is in my opinion of the most unpredictable goaltenders in the NHL, he is starting tonight which Halak will we get?
The Islanders have been a solid team at both ends of the ice as they come in ranked 7th in the league in scoring 2.8 goals per game and 13th in power play conversions 19.4%, while on defense they are 8th in goals allowed 2.3 goals per game and 5th in penalty kill, allowing teams to convert on just 15.9% of their chances. John Tavares leads New York with 12 goals, Kyle Okposo has 15 assists and Frans Nielsen has 74 shots on goal.
Ottawa Senators Preview
Just 1:32 into the game against Chicago Mike Hoffman scored for Ottawa. Senators ended up defeating in overtime, just 30 seconds in. Quite impressive from this high paced Ottawas’ offense. When they need to convert, they convert picking up where they left off last season. Hoffman leads the team with 13 goals on the year and also has 12 assists so far, His 25 point on the team is tied for second on the team with Bobby Ryan. Erik Karlsson leads the team with 29 points and he has three assists in the win over Chicago. Now if they can get Stone’s head out of his ass this team has a very excellent chance of making the playoffs this season.
Netminder Craig Anderson is 11-9 on the year with a rather high 2.81 goals against average. This is not the Anderson I know of, he’s a good American boy so he will get his goals against average lower as the season goes on. Historically, he has done that throughout his career in Ottawa, now 34 years old.
Senators are averaging 3.2 goals per game and are scoring on 22.4 percent of their power play.
NHL Starting Goalies
- New York Islanders – Jaroslav Halak
Halak made 33 saves on 34 shots in the Islanders’ win over the Rangers on Wednesday. Thomas Greiss got the nod last night, so expect Halak to go tonight in Ottawa. Halak has gone 3-1-1 with a 2.00 GAA and .927 SV% in his last five starts and comes into play on Saturday with a 1-2-2 record, 1.76 GAA and .929 SV%on the road this season
- Ottawa Senators – Craig Anderson
Anderson allowed three goals on 38 shots in Ottawa’s win over Chicago on Thursday. The win snapped a two-game losing skid for Anderson, who will start his 21st game of the season. The 34-year-old comes into play at 11-6-3 with a 2.81 GAA and .916 SV% on the season and 5-3-3 with a 2.47 GAA and .922 SV% on home ice.
