Ottawa Senators: Defenseman Matt Carkner to test the UFA market. Carkner turned down a 1 year deal from the Sens.
Boston Bruins: Tuukka Rask will be a 3 year deal worth approximately $13 million from the Bruins.
Florida Panthers: Pending UFA defenseman Jason Garrison will likely command up to $5.5-$6 million on the open market.
Dallas Stars: Could be interested in Jay Bouwmeester. 2 years at $6.6 million per season.
Jamie Benn wants to keep contract negotiations out of the media.
Washington Capitals: Adam Oates could help the Capitals lure a free agent like Zach Parise. Parise could be looking for something in the $9 million range. The Caps are currently about $20.9 million under the cap with 17 players signed. One problem is that the Capitals could use a scorer from the right side, Parise plays and shoots left. If the price is too high for Parise, maybe the Capitals would be interested in trading for right winger Bobby Ryan.
Toronto Maple Leafs: If the Maple Leafs are on Schultz’s short list, look for GM Brian Burke to make the pitch.
Don’t be surprised if Brandon Prust and Shane Doan become Maple Leafs. Both have been targeted since April.
Also I tweeted that the Leafs traded for Tim Thomas. I got it from an unconfirmed source and it is NOT true. It was a joke towards the recent USA health care plan.
Carolina Hurricanes: Are hoping to have Jordan Staal signed to a contract extension within the next 2 weeks.
New York Islanders: Hope P.A. Parenteau stays, but know that he’s been offered half the total money he can get on the open market.
Pittsburgh Penguins: 12 year contract worth $104.4M. Annual cap hit $8.7M for Cindy, I mean, Sidney Crosby.
