Lightning vs Red Wings First Round NHL Playoff Prediction 2016
This series serves as a quarterfinals rematch between the Red Wings and the Lightning. Last season, the Wings looked as though they could really take over the Lightning, until Tampa Bay had a pretty great comeback against Detroit, knocking the Red Wings out in what most believed was disappointingly early for the playoffs. These are two teams who have more in common than many might realize, including two coaches who are actually friends off the ice. A little extra drama and the absence of a few key players will make for a very interesting sequel to this playoff matchup.
The Lightning will come into this series without their captain, Steven Stamkos, who’s out with an injury. That’s the issue they seem to be having with a lot of key players right now, but luckily they’ve proven to be a very deep team this season, and can pull a lot of talent from their roster, including Alex Killorn, Nikita Kucherov, and Jonathan Drouin, who will really need to step it up in their positions to have a repeat of last year’s performance against Detroit. The Red Wings have struggled offensively this season, and Tampa Bay’s stellar defense, coming in 5th in the league in goals allowed, could really be their best bet in keeping Detroit at bay.
The Red Wings have both young players and vets on their side, and can play quickly and with good puck handling. While they’ve tended to falter this season offensively, they’re playing against a Tampa Bay team that isn’t at full strength, and who is without some of their key players, so it’s important for Detroit to take advantage of that. They’ll have Jimmy Howard in the goal as much as possible to block away the Lightning offense. Howard comes in with a .916 save percentage.
Lightning vs Red Wings First Round Playoff Prediction 2016
The Lightning are decimated with injuries, and their power play will suffer because of it. As where the Red Wings goaltending is a joke. This was a very hard series to predict, I flipped a coin, and the coin said the Red Wings will advance. Stay away from this series at all costs.
Detroit Red Wings should advance in 6 games
