Los Angeles Kings vs Ottawa Senators Prediction (12/14/13)
This is the final meeting between the Los Angeles Kings and Ottawa Senators. Back on October 9th the Kings blew a 3-0 lead but Jeff Carter scored in overtime and LA won 4-3.
The Kings are seeking their first six game winning streak since the 2011-2012 season. Only giving up five goals in five games the Kings rank first in goals against, giving up fewer than two per game (1.9). As where the Senators are trying to win consecutive games for the first time since early November.
Sometime last week when Martin Jones made his NHL debut I automatically went against him and the Kings. Boy was I wrong. It just seems like no matter who is in net for the Kings, the results have been the same. There’s no confirmation on who is starting this afternoon but it doesn’t matter. Scrivens or Jones, both will play like their competing for the starting job.
Scrivens, the NHL leader with a .943 save percentage, hasn’t played since Dec. 2 and is eager to get back in the net. Expect him to do so, and expect to see Jones against the Blackhawks tomorrow night.
Last season I backed the Senators whenever they were an underdog, especially at home. I kept cashing with them but this season is a different story. Whether it’s a lack of leadership or goaltending struggles, something is wrong in Ottawa and I don’t see it getting fixed anytime soon.
Craig Anderson played great the other night in a 2-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres. He stopped 40 of 41 shots. But at home Anderson is struggling, 4-6-1 with a 3.35 GAA and .892 SV% at home. And this scares me.
The Kings are a -130 road underdog and that line seems about right. But they do play the Mighty Blackhawks tomorrow night and I am afraid the Kings will be looking forward to that game, overlooking the Senators this afternoon.
I have never been a believer in that concept in the NHL but it seems like any team who is playing the Hawks, they lose the game before or play awful barely winning.
Putting that theory aside expect the Senators to come out strong looking and getting the early lead. It won’t be easy for the Kings but they will find a way to get back into the game and win.
Los Angeles Kings -130 to win $100
