NHL Starting Goalies
- LA Kings -> Jonathan Quick
Jonathan Quick was relieved by Jhonas Enroth just 22:41 into Thursday’s tilt with Anaheim. Quick stopped just six of nine shots during his time, and while the third goal was a freak circus shot, the Kings were down 3-0 to their rival. Clearly Coach Sutter thought LA needed a kick in the pants. Quick was eventually saddled with the loss as LA fell to Anaheim 4-2, his record now stands at 27-14-2.
Quick is 27-16 with a 2.24 goals against overall, including 13-5 with a 2.06 goals against average on the road, while vs the Bruins he is 7-4 with a 2.04 goals against average in his career.
- Boston Bruins -> Tuukka Rask
Tuukka Rask made 37 saves in the Bruins’ 2-1 overtime win against the Sabres on Saturday night. Rask allowed a second-period goal and that was it. After a slow start, his numbers trended up, but they fell back down in January (.914 SV%). We know he’s capable of clicking the switch at anytime. 2.47 goals against average, .918 SV%.
Rask is 9-13 with a 2.92 goals against average at home, while vs the Kings in his career he has gone 2-1 with a 1.69 goals against average
Kings vs Bruins Preview
The LA Kings currently rank 14th overall in scoring, potting 2.6 goals per game, while converting on 21.9% of their power play chances, ranking an amazingly 4th overall in the league.
At the other end of the barn the Kings are very strong, allowing just 2.3 goals per game for the year as of now, which ranks an amazing 5th in the league, while on the penalty kill they rank 9th in the league, allowing teams to convert on just 17.3% of their power play chances.
Boston still ranks 4th overall in scoring, netting 2.9 goals per game and 2nd in power play conversions, converting on 24.1% of their chances. Their offense is no joke this season. The top 6 forwards have stepped up and produced however I am starting to see signs of less production with each passing game.
On defense Boston ranks an awful 18th overall, giving up 2.6 goals per game, and 4th in penalty, allowing teams to convert on just 15.3% of their power play chances. When I think of Boston I think of a hard-hitting defensive team, this is not them anymore. Their defense has flaws and goaltending has not been consistent. Then again, Rask is the type of goalie who is only as good as the blue line in front of him.
