If you honestly thought Steven Stamkos was not going to re-sign with the Tampa Bay Lightning then you my “friends” need to step away from hockey. Or at least sit back and don’t open your mouth when it comes to this great game of hockey.
Put yourself in his shoes, 21 years old, very talented, one of the top players in the league, playing alongside Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier, and playing for one of Steve Yzerman.
Would you leave Tampa Bay? Would any amount of money ever convince you to leave all the above mentioned?
If Stamkos signed anywhere else, imagine the criticism he would get for chasing the money. Rumor had it that the Toronto Maple Laughs, I mean Leafs were in the hunt for him. Ok sure maybe, but if he signed in Toronto, he would for sure NEVER see a Stanley Cup and would go down as one of the biggest idiots in the NHL. You don’t leave a team with a GM like Steve Yzerman.
Now check out this, quoted from Stamkos himself.
“I got a couple of texts from friends with a picture of my face photo-shopped on Phil Kessel’s body,” Stamkos said Tuesday night on a conference call announcing his new five-year contract reportedly worth $37.5 million. “Some people thought it was a legit photo. When they sent it to me I cracked up. I couldn’t hold my laugh in that people were circulating that photo and thought it was real. That was comical.”
Now that is funny, typical Maple Leafs fans still dreaming. But hey, dreams can come true….if you’re not a Laughs fan!
