Toronto Maple Leafs vs Boston Bruins, February 2nd 2016
NHL Starting Goalies
- Toronto Maple Leafs -> James Reimer
James Reimer allowed five goals on 27 shots in Tuesday’s 5-1 loss to the Florida Panthers. Reimer got off to a hot start in 2015-16, but he’s been struggling of late. The 27-year-old has just one win in his last 10 decisions dating back to November 21. Reimer has an 8-8-6 record with a 2.10 goals-against-average and a .932 save percentage this season
- Boston Bruins -> Tuukka Rask
Tuukka Rask entered the game after Jonas Gustavsson was pulled due to illness and stopped 19 of 22 shots in a 6-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Rask took the loss in this one as the league’s lowest-scoring team broke out offensively for six goals. Following the loss, Rask’s record falls to 17-15-4 with a 2.49 goals-against-average and a .917 save percentage.
Maple Leafs vs Bruins Preview
Apparently the Maple Leafs will be unveiling a new logo today which originates from 1967 when they won a Stanley Cup. Desperate much?
Discipline has been a consistent issue for Toronto. They rank at the bottom in the least discipline teams throughout the NHL. Their last two games before the All Star break they allowed a total of 13 power plays to opposing teams. (Florida, Tampa Bay).
Toronto does show push when it comes to offense they just can’t finish-er. Truth is they don’t have the talent or the player IQ personnel to make the goals happen.
The Bruins power play no ranks 2nd in the NHL. The team is 35-for-135 (25.9%), with the highest percentage being 26.8% , second being Washington. The Bruins penalty kill has also improved to 84.4%, good for fifth best in the league. The Bruins are third in the NHL for goals scored per game with an average of 2.94.
This is no surprise for a Bruins team that has been built with depth for the last handful of years. This season they took heavy criticism that their days were coming to an end and a rebuild was due. I don’t see it, and the stats do not lie.
