Mike Sullivan Pittsburgh Penguins Coaching Style
Coaching styles play a major role in handicapping hockey games. The number one reason to be exact. Mike Sullivan Pittsburgh Penguins Coaching Style
Mike Sullivan only has one NHL game under his belt in Pittsburgh, it was not a warm welcoming. The Penguins continued to not impress after preaching during the morning practice the players wanted to impress their new “savior”.
Sullivan preaches a strong breakout of the defensive zone getting the puck on the blades of their star players. Malkin, Crosby, Kunitz and Kessel. He also preaches that morning practices are the most overrated thing in all of hockey. Which is a red flag if you ask me.
In his first game the Penguins found themselves in a 2-0 hole to the mighty Washington Capitals. The breakouts looked no different from before under Mike Johnston. Fleury did get hurt eventually losing 4-1. However that’s no excuse. The Penguins still only managed to score 1 goal. sure the momentum of the game shifted early on when the Caps took the 2-0 lead in the first period.
Again, that’s still no excuse. Crosby and company did not live up to their words by not impressing their new head coach. There are a lot of issues on the Penguins bench among the players and Sullivan has his work cutout for him.
It’s still too early to tell what his coaching style will exactly be, I will do a follow-up of this post in about 7 days, by then I should have a better understanding of Sullivan’s game plan for further handicapping.
As of now stay away from the Penguins until they try to settle in with Sullivan. It may take a week, it was take a season. Only time will tell at this point.
