Minnesota Wild vs Montreal Canadiens Preview
This is the second of two meetings between the Wild and Canadiens as the Habs saw their 3 game winning streak snapped back on November 2nd.
Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price is 1-3-2 over his past six starts, but he carries a 2.16 GAA and .920 SV% over that stretch. Price has gone 145:42 without allowing a goal until Ryan Callahan snapped the streak. Price finished with 33 saves in a 1-0 loss.
The recent Canadien struggles have not been on the backend, no offense what so ever from these French Frog Dwarfs. What did you expect though? They are the smallest team up front in the NHL.
The Minnesota Wild however are on an eight game point streak (7-0-1) and have earned points in 12 of the past 13 games (10-1-2) and they ar eonly two points behind the Central Division leader Chicago Blackhawks.
Minnesota also have a goaltender who is playing at the top with the best of them. Josh Harding – if he hasn’t already – is on his way to becoming the permanent starter in Minnesota. 12-2-2 with a 1.25 GAA and a .946 SV%
Who’s hot: Canadiens wing Alex Galchenyuk has two goals, four points, a plus-3 rating and 14 shots on goal in the past four games.
Harding (12-2-2) leads the NHL in GAA (1.25) and save percentage (.946) and is 9-0-2 over the past 11 games. Zach Parise has four goals and nine points in the past eight games.
Injury report: Minnesota goalie Niklas Backstrom (concussion) is out indefinitely. Defenseman Keith Ballard (upper body) is on injured reserve. Forward Mike Rupp (knee) is on a conditioning assignment in the American Hockey League.
Montreal defenseman Davis Drewiske (shoulder) is out long-term.
Minnesota Wild – Josh Harding (confirmed)
Montreal Canadiens – Carey Price (confirmed)
Minnesota Wild vs Montreal Canadiens Prediction
This is a small NHL pick and it will be documented on our overall NHL record.
Both Price and Harding have been stellar between the pipes this season and there’s no indication anything is going to change when these two meet. I expect a hard-fought battle between the Wild and Habs with both goaltenders stealing the show.
The odds are pointing to a low scoring game and you shouldn’t think differently. Expect a goaltending duel and a low scoring game.
