Minnesota Wild Preview
Last time out the Wild dominated the Rangers into the ice. Beyond the three ice thickness. It was an embarrassment.
Mikko Koivu led the charge for Minnesota against New York he notched two goals, an assist in the win. He now has eight goals on the year, while leading the team in points with 28. Also scoring for the Wild were Matt Dumba (5th), Jason Pominville (5th) and Chris Porter (2nd), while Ryan Suter had two assists.
Goaltender Devan Dubnyk is 14-9 with a 2.29 goals against average on the year overall, while on the road he’s just 4-6 with a 2.88 goals against average overall. Which isn’t a concern thus far, Minnesota’s offense has been leading the way.
Minnesota’s currently 7th in scoring, putting up 2.8 goals per game, while they are also strong on the power play, converting on 20.8% of their chances, 9th best in the league. On defense they rank 5th in goals allowed, giving up just 2.3 goals per game, however struggling on the power play allowing teams to convert on 22.2% of their chances, an awful 26th in the league.
Nashville Predators Preview
It’s the same old story for a Ken Hitchcock coached team. He wants his players coming out the gates hitting, hitting, hitting. The human body can only deliver that many hits in hockey. Then come the third period the Blues are exhausted, fatigued, than of course there are many offensive breakdowns.
The same applies for the Nashville Predators.
Pekka Rinne has now lost six of his last seven starts. He’s 12-15 on the year with a 2.40 goals against average, while at home he’s been solid this year, going 9-6 with a 1.98 goals against average.
Against Minnesota Rinne is 12-10 with a 2.34 goals against average. The Preds are not a good offensive team as they check in at 20th in scoring, putting up just 2.5 goals per game. Which leads back to their peter Laviolette coaching style.
They’ve been solid on the power play, they currently rank 10th. On defense they check in at 17th in goals allowed, giving up 2.6 goals per game, 29th in the penalty killing department.
