New York Islanders vs Montreal Canadiens Prediction
Firing and hiring coaches seems to be the way to go this season. In a slump? Fire the coach! Well, the trend has continued for the Montreal Canadiens since Claude Julien took over.
Montreal currently leads the Atlantic division with 72 points and supporting a +14 goal differential. A big reason for that has been Carey Price between the pipes this season. 25-15-5 posting 2.44 goals against average and .918 save percentage. He started the season hot, trailed off, but has been back to Price like form. Price has posted a .936 save percentage in his last two starts.
As for the Islanders, they are sitting in the final wild card spot with 66 points. However, Both the Panthers and Bruins are right behind them with 66 points as well.
Thomas Greiss gets the nod in this one, he’s 19-11-3 with a .918 save percentage. But, in February he’s a dreadful 4-4-0, 3.31 goals against average and .884 save percentage.
This is a big game at home for the Habs. If Price plays like he did against the Rangers, they’ll win handily. Their offense should be firing effectively like they always do at home. This is not an official pick, it has no rating and it will not be documented. It’s for entertaining purposes only.
- Montreal Canadiens to win
New York Rangers vs Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction
It’s simple. The Rangers are an incredible road team. And the Maple Leafs are a decent home team who seem to never go away. No matter how many goals you have on them, somehow they fight back and win. It’s incredible.
Toronto is also ranked 6th in scoring with 3.14 goals per game but on defense, they are 23rd overall. The Rangers are scoring 3.32 goals per game which is 3rd best in the league. Then you have to deal with Henrik Lundqvist who is 6-1-1 in his last 8 starts supporting 1.97 goals against average and .940 save percentage.
With how Lundqvist is currently playing, it’s going to be hard for the Leafs to climb out of a hole if they find themselves in one. Especially since the Rags are 10th in goals allowed per game. Besides, -110 money line odds are near perfect for tonight.
This is a TOP NHL PICK OF THE DAY. It has a rating and it will be documented.
- New York Rangers -110 (risking $550 to profit $500)
Calgary Flames vs Tampa Bay Lightning Prediction
The Lightning needs to keep racking up wins as they are currently 6th in the Eastern Conference with 62 points. 4 points out of the final wild-card spot. Ben Bishop has been a disaster for the most part of the season but has been back in form as of late.
Ben Bishop is on a 5 game winning streak allowing just 6 goals over that span. Supporting a remarkable .953 save percentage.
As for the Flames, Brian Elliott has been nothing short of a piece of swiss cheese. However, much like Bishop, he has been hot going 5-2-1 over his last 8 starts posting 2.57 goals against average. For the season he’s 13-13-3 with 2.84 goals against average.
I can’t justify laying -143 odds on the Bolts. Both teams are hot and both goaltenders finally got their head’s out of their asses. I am going with the under in this one.
This is not an official pick, it has no rating and it will not be documented. It’s for entertaining purposes only.
- UNDER 5.5
Arizona Coyotes vs Chicago Blackhawks Prediction
This is a matchup where one team is far out of the playoffs and have no desire to finish the season strong. And another team in a playoff spot, chasing the Minnesota Wild for first in the division. Chicago is currently 5 points behind the Wild.
Mike Smith gets the call between the iron tonight. Over his last five games, he has posted an incredible .935 save percentage. But, against Chicago he is has gone 0-2-0 with a horrific 4.04 goals against average. While supporting a disastrous, .849 save percentage.
Chicago will be in a must-win situation no matter who their opponents are. They defeated the Wild, in Minnesota this week, 5-3 while blowing up the Sabres 5-1 on the road, last weekend. They are rolling and they seem to be the most confident bunch overall in the league.
Corey Crawford gets the nod on home ice. He’s 23-13-3 so far this season with a 2.57 goals against average. And a mediocre .917 save percentage.
Free NHL Pick
However, -245 money line for the Hawks at home, is not worth the money. I refuse to risk $245 to win a small $100. This is still a sport, anybody could get injured which can and will turn the game around. With that being said….
….Over the last 10 games between the Yotes and Hawks, the posted total has gone 8-1-1. Both teams combined, when facing each other, have scored on average 6.32 goals per game over their last 10 last match-ups. As a matter of fact here at Pucking Hockey, we backed the OVER 5.5 last time these two met in early February. As our top NHL pick of the day. It was a scoring fest, with 7 total goals.
To make my point even stronger, Arizona, a low scoring team, has averaged 6.47 goals per game thus far in February. As for Chicago, they have been averaging 6.65 goals per game this month. 8 games total.
This is our SECOND TOP NHL PICK. It has a rating and it will be documented.
- OVER 5.5 (+110) (risking $500 to profit $550)
Boston Bruins vs LA Kings Prediction
Last night the betting public racked up the odds on the Bruins and as I expected, they would/did lose. I backed the Ducks last night, getting the 5-2 victory. And here we go again, the Bruins are on a back to back in LA and they are a +120 money line underdog, with 91% of the betting public backing them.
The Kings do skate into this game losing 5 of their last 7 games. But, they are at home facing Anton Khudobin. Who is 2-5-1 this season with a dreadful 3.05 goals against average and a .888 save percentage. Even worse, on the road, he supports 3.44 goals against average.
This is not an official pick, it has no rating and it will not be documented.
