NHL Starting Goalies Tonight 1/11/16
- San Jose Sharks -> Martin Jones
Martin Jones set aside all 28 shots he faced in a 7-0 shutout of the Maple Leafs on Saturday night. This is the first time he allowed fewer than two goals since Dec. He has a 2.42 goals against average and .913 SV%
Jones vs the Flames in his career he has gone 2-1 with a 2.93 goals against average
- Calgary Flames -> Karri Ramo
Karri Ramo suffered a scare during Sunday’s practice. Ramo was struck in the throat by a shot from Mason Raymond and had to leave the ice as a result. He was evaluated by the medical staff, but Flames coach Bob Hartley said Ramo’s fine. Given that Ramo’s played in 26 of Calgary’s last 29 games, it would have been devastating for the team if he had been sidelined.
Ramo vs the Sharks he is 4-4 with a 2.75 goals against average in his career.
San Jose Sharks Preview
San Jose rank 8th in scoring, potting 2.8 goals against average, while converting on 20.6% of their power play chances, which is 7th in the league. On defense is where they have had some issues as they are 23rd in goals allowed, giving p 2.8 goals against average, while ranking 10th in penalty kill 81.8%
Martin Jones was pulled from his latest start in Calgary after giving up three goals on 14 shots. Alex Stalock has made each of his five appearances against the Flames in Calgary and is 1-2-1 with a 2.15 goals against average
Calgary Flames Preview
The Flames will try to bounce back by earning their eighth win in the last 10 meetings with San Jose. Calgary’s 4-2 victory Dec. 8 was its fourth in the last five home matchups, and Michael Frolik scored the tie breaking goal in the second period.
Calgary ranks 15th in scoring, potting 2.6 goals per game, but they have converted on just 12.7% of their power play chances, which is dead last in the league. Pathetic.
Nothing new on the defensive side of the ice, Calgary ranks 29th in goals allowed, giving up 3.1 goals per game, while allowing teams to convert on 25.8% of their power play chances, which is last in the league. Pathetic again/ Special teams have been a big issue for the Flames, at both ends of the ice.
