NHL Picks For Tonight – St. Louis Blues vs Nashville Predators (12/30/14)
One of my favorite NHL teams almost had the victory against Chicago last night but they couldn’t figure out the Blackhawks in the shootout. I mean, can anyone really compete with the Blackhawks when it comes to a shootout? Now when I say one of my favorite teams, it’s mainly because of Pekka Rinne and Peter Laviolette (ex-Flyers head coach).
I love seeing ex-players and ex-coaches from the Flyers get the axe and succeed elsewhere.
The Predators have been stellar this season, Laviolette’s system fits well with this group of players and GM David Poile knew what he was doing when he hired Laviolette. Which reminds me, expect Team USA’s GM – you guessed it – David Poile to have Laviolette behind the bench as the head coach when the Olympics come back around. Because this Smashville team will have a deep playoff run or Stanley Cup win within the next 1-3 years.
Pekka Rinne is starting tonight after allowing 4 goals and a couple in the shootout. Back to back situation for him. Rinne started all three meetings vs St. Louis this season and owns a 2.15 career GAA against the Blues.
Looking at the other end of the ice the St. Louis Blues shutout the Colorado Avalanche last night ending a season worst 4 game losing skid. The Blues held the Avalanche to just 16 shots but this is a very bad Colorado team, who hasn’t beaten them yet this season? And let’s face it, Brodeur was in net the Blues had to make sure he didn’t see more than 18 shots.
I love Brodeur what it’s time to hang the pads up.
Martin Brodeur earned the shutout victory last night which I thought was rather easy but I’m not a professional goaltender so what do I know about that position? Problem for Brodeur though right now is Brian Elliott is back of IR and he is starting in net tonight. Between Elliott (who is stellar) and Jake Allen who knows where Brodeur fits on this team right now. But who cares? That’s his problem not mine.
I personally don’t feel bad for professional athletes who make millions and can’t find “work”.
St. Louis’ offense will still center around Vladimir Tarasenko, who scored his 22nd goal of the season last night to set a new career best. He has a goal in each of the last two games, giving him 16 points over the last 14 contests.
This kid is no joke this season and may be no joke over the course of his career!
Tarasenko, who has three goals against Nashville this season, sits behind only Dallas’ Tyler Seguin (25) and the New York Rangers’ Rick Nash (23) for the NHL goals lead.
