Lindy Ruff has been in the doghouse -ruff ruff- with the Buffalo Sabres for sometime and I’m surprised it took this long to fire him. In my opinion he wasn’t the problem in Buffalo, it’s the type of players he had to coach that was the problem. But, that’s over with now, time to move on.
Looking at current NHL teams that are struggling when they shouldn’t be, one team that stands out at me are the Minnesota Wild. The Wild who are currently 10th in the Western Conference are just sitting with a 7-6-3 record while sitting DEAD LAST in goals for. This is one area that the Wild need to address and should address it before Lindy Ruff gets hired, because he will find a job before the month ends.
Ruff has helped the Sabres stay in the middle of the pact all season with goals for, and before he was fired the Sabres ranked 13th in the NHL with goals for. That’s pretty impressive, not exactly Anaheim, Tampa Bay or Pittsburgh type hockey but it’s still pretty impressive after coaching a team for 14+ years. Typical coaches lose their locker room going into their 4th year, but not Lindy Ruff.
I’m not saying the Wild will go ahead and fire Mike Yeo, although I believe they should. What I’m saying is, if the Wild want to compete and have a deep playoff run before Zach Parise’s and Ryan Suter’s contract expire, they need to hire Lindy Ruff….now.
