It’s been an interesting trade deadline, desperate teams, and not so desperate teams. Let’s take a look at NHL Teams Ripping Off Other NHL Teams: 2015 Trades
Philadelphia Flyers/Tampa Bay Lightning Trade
The Flyers finally did it, they traded Brayden Nose-Coburn to Tampa Bay in exchange for Radko Gudas, a 2015 1st-round draft pick and a 2015 3rd-round draft pick.
Since that horrifying trade involving Scott Hartnell, GM Ron Hetxall has redeemed himself by ripping off the Tampa Bay Lightning. This was straight up cold-blooded robbery, and I can’t believe Steve Yzerman went for it. I get it, Tampa is a playoff contending team and they want to win now, but come on, Brayden Coburn?
Seems like Philly’s just dumping all their trash off in Tampa. First Matt Carle and now Brayden Coburn.
So far the Flyers have the following draft picks for the upcoming 2015 NHL draft: Two 1st round, one 2nd round, two 3rd round, two 4th round, one 5th round, one 6th round and one 7th round. That’s a total of 10 draft picks, and they are all early draft picks. WOW!
Edmonton Oilers/Philadelphia Flyers Racking Up 2015 Draft Picks
These are two teams that are desperate of a rebuild, but more so the Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton already had their chance. They will just puck it all up again.
So far the Flyers have traded two veteran defensemen, Kimmo Timonen and Brayden Coburn, in return they now have ten, 2015 draft picks. GM Ron Hextall already made it clear when he took over that he was going to rebuild through the draft, and that’s exactly the plan he’s sticking with. Not to mention they had a few early draft picks last season and pulled in two capable defensemen that could be NHL ready very soon.
If Ron Hextall drafts properly, mark my words, the Flyers will be a dynasty with-in the next 5 years.
Looking at the Oilers, we can all agree they have not drafted well at all in the past. Their defense is a joke and in net, it’s even worse. Not to mention the inconsistent offense. So far they have raked in a 2015 2nd-round draft pick and a 2015 conditional 5th-round draft pick.
Not exactly what the Edmonton faithful were expecting, and what the experts are saying, Edmonton’s done making deals this season. Now, I am not sure how many upcoming 2015 draft picks the Oilers currently have from previous trades etc, but this is not what I was expecting from Edmonton.
Toronto Maple Leafs/Dion Phaneuf
Let’s clear the air, much like Roberto Luongo, trading Dion Phaneuf is a summer deal. There’s just too much money involved, so why feel pressured to make a deal now? Unless Toronto is “wow-ed” by a possible deal, they won’t make a move until the summer.
Toronto will not make the playoffs this season, and that takes them out of desperate trades before the trade deadline. As for where he lands? I am predicting the Dallas Stars. I can’t see the Leafs keeping Phaneuf in the Eastern Conference. And I am sure Dallas will rip off Toronto for Phaneuf, it’s Toronto after-all. Right?
