Thursday March 19th 2015 and here at Pucking Hockey we have a free NHL hockey prediction between the Philadelphia Flyers and Calgary Flames tonight.
Being a Flyers fan I am used to this, and I hope one day the rest of their fans can see it’s time to stop going to their games and make a point. The good news however is that Ron Hextall gathered a bunch of draft picks at the trade deadline, and is sticking to his word.
Rebuilding through the draft.
Something the Flyers have not done efficiently enough since Bobby Clarke drafted Justin Williams and Patrick Sharp. But he also shot himself in the foot by trading those gems. Something I can’t see Ron Hextall doing.
Ironically, consider the Flyers have always been able to score and not keep the puck out of their own net in the past. It’s now the exact opposite. Steve Mason has been amazing since he entered Philly, but the offense is not deep enough. Lead my Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek, well, that’s all the Flyers have.
Calgary Making a Playoff Push
I said it before the season started, and I will say it again, and again. The Flames will make the playoffs, their young stars will gain experience, and this Flames team will be a deep playoff team in the near future, and a force to be reckoned with.
Problem however, is their goaltending. Jonas Hiller doesn’t have what it takes, and after seeing him this season, his positioning is not playoff worthy material. Kari Ramo has been a bit impressive this season, but not consistent enough for my liking.
NHL Hockey Prediction
Kari Ramo starts for the Flames tonight however he has gone 5-6-1 with a 3.08 GAA and .897 SV% against Eastern Conference opponents this season. I give him a slight edge though considering he’s on home ice and the Flames need this victory. The Flyers are playing for, well, I don’t know what they are playing for. But they have been horrific on the road.
Calgary Flames -135 (risking $135 to win $100)
