Philadelphia Flyers vs Florida Panthers Preview
The Philadelphia Flyers started the season with seven losses in eight games and now for the first time this season they are .500 (10-10-2). They won 3 games in a row for the second time this month, scoring 14 goals on the current three game streak after needing 10 games to score their first 14 of the season.
Philly isn’t quite out of the hole yet. They rank 25th with 2.23 goals per game but their recent success has pushed them past the Panthers who are 27th at 2.12 goals per game.
Steve Mason made 36 stops against the Islanders to improve to 4-0-1 in his last five with a 1.57 goals-against average and .950 save percentage. In his career against Florida, he’s 5-0-0 with a 1.17 GAA and .960 save percentage. Goaltending for once, has not been the problem in Philly. Surprisingly.
As for Florida they haven’t been able to gain any momentum under interim coach Peter Horachek, but they have improved slightly. They’re 3-4-1 under Horachek but lost 4-3 in a shootout to Calgary over the weekend.
The shootout loss ended a five game road trip where they finished 2-2-1.
Tim Thomas is 17-4-2 with a 2.16 GAA in his career against Philadelphia, including the postseason. He allowed two goals on five shots against the Flyers on Oct. 8 before leaving with a groin injury. He’d beaten the Flyers in nine of 10 before that.

Although he was held off the score sheet Friday, Brad Boyes has three goals in his past six games for the Panthers.
Matt Read has four goals in the past two games for the Flyers. It took Girioux 16 games before he notched his first goal of the season Nov. 19. After scoring Saturday, he now has two goals in his past three games.
Defenseman Ed Jovanovski (hip) and forward Steven Pinizzotto (hip) are both on injured reserve for the Panthers. Defenseman Mike Weaver (flu-like symptoms) hasn’t played since Nov. 15, and is questionable. Wings Jesse Winchester (lower body) and Tomas Kopecky (upper body) are both doubtful.
The Flyers are healthy.

Philadelphia Flyers vs Florida Panthers Prediction
This is a small NHL pick and it will be documented on our overall NHL record.
The Flyers have been rolling under Craig Berube and they are buying into his system. Goals have been coming and things are looking up in Philly finally. The players are confident and the overall atmosphere is “upbeat” in the locker room.
Florida on the other hand are still struggling but the only thing that scares me is the fact that Tim Thomas is in net tonight. He has ALWAYS owned Philly but at the same time this was when he had Boston playing in front of him. Thomas is still elite don’t get me wrong, but the momentum is in the Flyers hands tonight and that’s who I am sticking with.
Expect the Flyers to get above .500 for the first time this season tonight. Plus the odds are way too low for this Flyers squad who is on fire right now.
Philadelphia Flyers -110 to win $100
