Phoenix Coyotes vs Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction (12/19/13)
I’m surprised the death rate isn’t up in Toronto because the Leafs have been a pucking mess over the last 3 weeks. Then again, Toronto fans are used to this type of hockey. Which is why they carry the nick name “Maple Laffs”. At least their lady fans are sexy….
After opening 14-8-1, the Maple Laffs have dropped into eighth place in the Eastern Conference behind a 3-8-2 slide dating to Nov. 25. Toronto has allowed an NHL-worst 50 goals over that stretch, including a league-high 15 on the power play.
Their latest loss suffered was against Floriduhhhh. Yes, Florida. You know your team is bad when you lose to Florida at home.
Phoenix however is coming off of a loss of their own at Montreal Tuesday. The Coyotes are tied with Toronto near the bottom of the league with a penalty kill percentage of 77.3, and is 1-5-1 when allowing two power-play goals. But don’t count on the Maple Laffs even scoring one power-play goal tonight.
It’s unclear if Coyotes captain Shane Doan will be available after missing the last five games with an illness. Doan, leading the team with 12 goals, has 14 points in his last 14 matchups against Toronto.
Mike Smith is 3-0-1 against the Leafs, but he is 2-5-2 with a 3.09 GAA in his last nine games.
It’s very hard for me to back Toronto tonight. I backed them earlier in the week when they looked like complete garbage against the depleted Pittsburgh Penguins. They pucked me so I went against them when they hosted Florida. Florida pounded them and I expect the Phoenix Coyotes to do the same tonight.
Phoenix is a -110 road underdog due to the fact that they’re on the road. But this is Toronto, not a hard place to play at. Oh and keep an eye on the Toronto fans, I’m sure we will see some bag headed fans tonight.
Phoenix Coyotes -110 to win $100
